i have a buddy that was given a 44 mag in a trade and i would like to buy it from him. it is not registered to him so can i buy it and have it registered to me? if i don't regester it is it an illegal firearm if i ever get caught possesing it? i know that rifles and shot guns are grandfathered all the time but i was curious because its a handgun.. any advise and input would be greatly appreciated!!!

Just make sure you get all his information, and have him sign something that he was the person you got it from. I'd hate to see it come up as a stolen weapon or used in a crime when its in your possesion. It does happen. I was going to purchase a 9mm one time, had the numbers ran and it had been stolen a few years before. The one I was going to buy it from had no clue that it had been stolen, he had done a trade for it.
