Title: private purchase
Post by: HighCountryHunter88 on March 20, 2010, 12:44:45 PM: i have a buddy that was given a 44 mag in a trade and i would like to buy it from him. it is not registered to him so can i buy it and have it registered to me? if i don't regester it is it an illegal firearm if i ever get caught possesing it? i know that rifles and shot guns are grandfathered all the time but i was curious because its a handgun.. any advise and input would be greatly appreciated!!!

I'd hate to see it come up as a stolen weapon or used in a crime when its in your possesion. It does happen. I was going to purchase a 9mm one time, had the numbers ran and it had been stolen a few years before. The one I was going to buy it from had no clue that it had been stolen, he had done a trade for it.
