To start take a 5 gallon bucket. Second take some chicken (live or dead). Then dig a hole in the ground so that the bucket is flush with the ground. Put some chicken wire over the bucket, so the yote cant get the the bait. When you go to secure the wire, place a night time fishing bell inside on the chicken wire.The bell will help you identify when you have one at night.If you use a live chicken its going to get some serious attention so be aware. Put this trap were the coyote feels comfortable but just were you have a shooting lane. Let me know how it turns out. SHOOT WELL!!

I have a question in regards to baiting with canned dog food. I keep hearing advise about not leaving dog/cat food out on the porch, because it attracts coyotes, raccoons, skunks, etc.. Is canned dog food something to leave out as bait? I don't have access to a regular supply of live chickens, and popping open a can of dog food is an easy thing to do. Leave it in the can with the lid off, they can smell it, and if you don't get a hit on that set, can put a lid on it and carry it to the next stand. Thoughts?

I know that you can bait for yotes, but not for bears. What is to stop a game warden from assuming your going for yotes and not bears? :dunno: I just dont want to be out there testing this canned dog food theory and have a warden assume im hunting for someting I am not sussposed to be.
Don't put dog food out prior or during bear season and you should be ok.

If you were to go out with dog food and your predator gear you should not have a problem. I havnt moved out there yet so i have not done allot of my research on it. I know in most states if your baiting for bear, your bait station has to follow certain rules. Some even include a paper tag authorizing your bait station. With all that said you will be alright. Let me know how it works out.
Hoosier - I respectfully suggest you do some research.
If you follow the above advice during a bear season (and are caught in an area that could hold bears) I can almost guarantee you will have problems with F&W. Having "predator gear" will do nothing to help you. What do you think bears are?
Dog food was a longtime favorite bear bait for many and considering that we are not allowed to bait bears, I would suggest against it in areas that have an open (or soon to open) bear season.

Show him the .204 ruger you're carrying and ask him if he thinks you're bear hunting.

Legal Weapon:
Any legal weapon used during the modern
firearm, archery, or muzzleloader seasons
can be used for spring black bear hunts. Bait
or hounds are not allowed for bear hunting
(RCW 77.15.245).
That is the only thing in the regs that I have found so far about bear. What is being said is like telling someone if you go into the woods with a Modern firearm during bear season its illegal. I am pretty sure that wardens are pretty much all the same. Baiting bear out here is legal on the other hand. But just because I have a bait pile out and no bear permit doesn't mean I am illegally hunting black bear with a 243 varmint round (respectfully saying). Think about it. Use common sense people when your out there. If there Is heavy bear hunting going on in an area then don't put yourself in that situation and in that area. If you have a tag for bears and yotes then dont be baiting in bear season. :bdid:
