Title: Strother SR-71
Post by: firecrotch on April 06, 2010, 11:30:34 PM: Well i picked one up here yesterday and am extremely impressed with the bow!! This bow has unbelievable speed with no shock, and is very quiet! I cant wait to let the air out of a gobbler with it!

Post by: firecrotch on April 07, 2010, 04:05:43 PM: they are great bows, and really arent to bad of a price for what you get. they are in the 850-900 dollar range. they are extremely hard to get right now. i didnt buy mine through a bow shop.

Post by: firecrotch on April 07, 2010, 11:50:03 PM: yes i have. let me say this i am a very short guy with a 26 1/2 in draw length. when i went in to test out the bow i brought my martin moab as well to compare the two. i started out by chronoin my moab and with it set at 70 lbs 26 1/2 draw length and my 344 gr arrow it chronoed at 258 fps. after that i shot the strother SR-71 with my 344 gr arrow and set at 70 lbs and 26 1/2 in draw it chronoed at 321 fps! its not just fast but extremely quiet. what i was most impressed about wasnt just the speed and the quietness but the fact that there was zero hand shock at all. i honestly have never shot a bow like it.

$800-900 is pretty much the going rate for the 2010 model higher end bows Jack. And that's for a bare bow, still need a rest, sight, quiver, stabilizer on top of that. New bows are very spendy for sure. And the worst part is compound bows are like computers, they get better all the time and 10 years from now your $1000 bow will be worth about what a 10 year old computer is. Guns are an investment, compound bows are an expense. These Strother bows are getting really good reviews from guys who can get their hands on them. Mr. Strother was a founder/designer for Bowtech, and then Elite, now Strother. He knows what goes into a good bow.

Could of had one shipped to the bow shop I bought my bow from to try but would hav been a month or longer wait. Went with a Monster 7 instead. I'll second what MagKarl said, almost all the top line bows are $800+ and that's just the camo, try and get one with black or with a different color riser and limbs it's more. Sorry to hijack your thread. Let us know how it shoots!!!

Understood that loud and clear...the comment was made that it was a great bow for the money making it sound like it was a bargain or something...I didn't think you had to spend much more than that for the best of the best. I guess I just misread what he was saying.
I've got a fairly expensive bow currently(blackout alphamax 32) so I'm aware of the money folks put into them. I agree compound bows are a bad investment but I've gotten to a point with my bow where I don't need anything better(which is a whole different topic and I don't want the thread jacked with that conversation).

no, i dont know where to guys that are getting them are getting them from.

Post by: let.it.fly on April 12, 2010, 07:38:58 AM: i was at wilderness on saturday. i shot one of there strothers. dont remember what model. the one that was built hangin on the wall. i wasnt to impressed. very smooth draw but dumped off realy hard when the let off kicked in. very fast bow though. kinda scary IMHO. i wouldn't be comfortable shooting an arrow less then 450 grns. screamin speed though. i'm not sure what arrows they had me shooting. must have been very light because it sounded like i was dry fireing the bow. i bet with a heavy arrow they would be a dream though, other then the let off unexpectedly dumping off on ya.
