Title: peep sight size
Post by: grousetracker on April 08, 2010, 05:50:54 PM
i am wondering how big the peep should be, i look through it and can see the whole sight ring and level plus a little. i use sdpins and put my nose to the string. is it better to go smaller or remain here?

my preference would be to leave as is, my peep is the same way.  i can see the entire ring, level and some light around the ring. i make sure there is equal amounts of space around the outside of the ring to make sure that the sight is centered in the peep.  im no expert though im still relatively new to archery, shooting sticks 2 years now, but that my  :twocents:

I think the peep you have sounds about the right size to me.

I'd say stay with a bigger one for hunting bows.  1/4" is a good size.  You get so much more light through them, and low light situations are common.  It sucks to have a good shot present itself and not be able to see through your peep.  I had that happen several times back in the 80's when the pin guards were square and you centered each individual pin, so you needed a relatively small peep to maintain any resemblence of accuracy.

i like 1/4" myself your setup sounds fine. the thing with archery is consistency as long as you anchor the same and the sight housing is in the same position you will do just fine.

I had a smaller peep and didn't like it. I took drill bits and drilled it out bigger until my ring was perfectly pictured in the peep. I am more consistant with my shooting now . I say go with the bigger one. Mike

It is unanimous. Keep it as is.

My  :twocents: the bigger the better if you hunt, to let in more light. Smaller is better for target and dont use tubes to connet to your bow sting to your peep; G5's all they way.

+1

Get the biggest you can, your eye will automatically center regardless of size. The bigger is better in low light conditions
