Title: 40 s&w powder
Post by: shawnb on April 16, 2010, 12:18:26 PM
I was just wondering what A good powder is for a 40s&w. I bought blue dot and it seems Ok, but I would like a little more variance between min grn and max grn.

I've had good luck with Titegroup, but it doesn't give much spread between min and max loads.

When shooting a semi-auto you don't have a lot of leeway in your loads.  To keep your pistol functioning reliabley it needs to operate in a fairly close pressure range.   Looking at some manuals all powders listed have only a .5gr to 1.5gr spread from min to max with Blue Dot and 800x having the widest spread, and 800x doesn't meter very well(I use it in my 41 mag).  If you don't mind weighing charges you might give 800x a try.
