Fishing is still slow at Drano.  I saw maybe 20 fish caught in 4 hrs.  A lot of fish were lost, including one by me   :bash: :bash:

The boat guys were doing better than the bank anglers though.  Sorry, no pics, I was fishing, not photographing.  :chuckle: :chuckle:

I went to Drano today. I got there at 8:30. We were all over the lake in the boat. It was a really nice calm day. We saw about 13 fish caught. Me and a freind and my son didnt have any luck. Not even a takedown. Everyone we saw catch fish were using some kind of big flasher and a green spinner with a pink prawn. We tried the same thing they were catching everything on but not a dang thing. It was a long drive from Ellensburg. We fished just out in front of the bank fishers and that is were most of the fish were caught. I got to feel what it should have felt like to bring in a big 15 to 18 pounder only because the guy in a boat next to us caught one and it ran into my line and got all tangled up. Nicest day on Drano with no wind!!!!!!!!!

I talked to a local, and then the WDFW office in Vancouver.  The main part of the river is open from the bank.  The guys killing the fish right now are around the corner from the bridge towards the west.  They are plunking with prawns and sand shrimp and flat knocking em dead right now.  For some reason the fish are holding in the main Columbia and not coming into Drano right now.   Was told it takes about 4 - 5 ounces of lead to get to the bottom and hold though.   I think I may try it tomorrow after work, and see if I can catch me a fish or two.

When we were there there was a few boats out there fishing just west of the bridge. Out on the main Columbia river. Looked like they were anchored up.  :dunno:   We were using 3 and 4 ounce canon balls to get our bait down.

Well, heck, I did not think to ask about boats out there, since I am bank fishing.  Gonna give it the ole college try again after work tomorrow.

The water may still be a little to cold for the big rush into Drano.  Get some warmer weather and they will be thick.  Should be a 100k over the dam by tomorrow.

it was actually a Brad's Magnum Wiggler in Hot Tamale.  Sat. should be good, but be prepared for the zoo.  Be there earlier than needed, and be ready for people to be a bit nutso.

Always room on the bank, if you get there early enough.  If you are not there by 4 am, you will be fishing way down on the far, far end of nowhere, lmao.

Will be there in the morning.

Anything close for overnighting? Doing the long drive down next Thursday and going to fish Friday too. Normally we just sleep in the truck but this time I'm bringing my boy along and it would be nice to find somewhere descent near by to crash. Anyone know?

Muley, you can stay in Stevenson, or Hood River as both have a couple motels.  If Stevenson I would book ahead of time as a lot of fishermen stay there over the weekend.

Sorry... Full load. Bringing along my cousin who has never caught a salmon and my almost 4 year old son. Along with my dad and another buddy, space filled up quick. I'll definitely be busy! I managed to book a room in Stevenson so now all I have to do is cross my fingers for good weather and even better fishing.
