So... I know the "which caliber" debate has been beaten more than a dead horse... not going there. I've read wonderful arguments for the three "big" calibers; .223, .22-250, and the (relatively) new .204. I've also read that one of the best ways to pick one is to try them out. So here would be my plea for some help. Would any kind soul be willing to take me out shooting to get a feel for these three? I can definitely pay for the ammo and drive myself to a local range... I'm in the Lakewood area. Eventually I would be looking to hunt coyote... maybe bobcat and the smaller varmints on occasion. I do already have a larger rifle for deer and elk. So anywho... that's my plea for some kind help :)

dont have those guns so sorry I would help ya..I use a 22mag or 243

I'd save yourself a lot of trouble and just buy a 220 swift. :) Welcome to the site......or add 25-06 to the equation so you can hunt elk with your varmit gun.

.223 if you want to shoot a lot of rounds for cheap
.22-250 or .220 swift if you want to reload and want longer range.
.204 great round as well.
Can't help you on the testing them out scenario as I am on the other side of the state. but best of luck and welcome

i am too far away as well, but like said before look into 25-06, .243, or even a .257 roberts, then you can multitask :dunno:

I chose the Savage Predator, in 204 Ruger, as my coyote gun. I've killed a few, and find it potent. It has a flat trajectory and has less recoil and report than, say, the .22-250. It groups down to about 0.5" at 100 yds, which is more than adequate for yotes.

If you ever make it down to the tri-city area, let me know. I have an AR in .223 and a Winchester 22-250, and am always looking for an excuse to shoot *censored*!

I've conveniently forgotten how much it cost exactly. I think it was about $1500 with accessories. I found it at the store formerly known as Sportsman's Warehouse.

if you were closer i would let you shoot some on mine i have several of the 223 and 22-250, i am not a 204 buff when i have the other 2 cals already. if you ever make it down to goldendale i could help you out. welcome to the site. there is also a intro page stop by and say hi and tell us about yourself.
