The man in the kayak is Dr. Richard Kraft from Sitka, Alaska. He happened to get caught in the middle of a group of humpback whales that were feeding on herring in Katlian Bay just outside of Sitka. He lived to tell of his experience.

With no evidence at all, I'll call photoshop!

That is a tough pic to call. The reflection seems to be the giveaway. There must be more pics.
Here is a link to the original pic.

A few years back we got caught up in a feeding group that I ignorantly thought may be mating. Turned out they were bubble netting and we were right in the middle. I could have touched one right next to the boat but was unsure what any reaction may be. Our pics were published.

No reflection of the kayaker, fake.

A friend of mine told me a story about paddling around somewhere in SE and happened to get into the middle of the "bubble circle" as he called it. He said he just kept paddling (I'm sure he increased the cadence a bit), and they just came up behind him, no big deal. Of course this guy also spend the entire winter in the interior bush, running his trap line by himself with no human contact for a couple months. I've never seen him get excited about much. Myself, I don't even like sea lions next to me when I'm in a kayak, I don't think I'd like whales that close.

Thats what I was thinking. You would think he would react, or at least stop paddling as if nothing was going on! Something like, "holy *censored*, I'm being eaten by a whale!"
