Title: my neighbor
Post by: boneaddict on May 19, 2010, 06:26:57 PM
I noted elsewhere that at least I could see eye to eye with this neighbor, the other one is well, "A snake in the grass"(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fv47%2Fboneaddict%2FAntler%2520Images%2Fdesertkingcamo.jpg&hash=549d33cf07cbeb79f615ee7775c5b4138ae88d60)

Do they cause much trouble for you with your birds?  and pretty snake

They did last year.   They cost me a 2,000 or more in birds(they ate the chicks) and a bunch more in eggs.  They do however keep the others at bay and help me with my rodents.

I sort of figured I know they are great at keeping others out and rodents down but chicks look mighty tasty from a snakes perspective I would think...

Check out the difference...pretty easy to tell them apart...even at just a glance... but...the bull snake can hiss and sound dang near like the buzz of a rattler.... scare the P outta ya purty quick!

I think I got a hybrid this spring.  I didn't post becasue I'm not sure.  Looked mostly rattler, but its head was missing the shape compared to a normal rattler.  If you guys promise not to ridicule I'll post it.  I've killed hybrids that were for sure a cross..... now I originally thought Bulls were live births and rattlers were eggs, so not sure how they even hybridize :dunno:

im almost a 100% positive its impossible for a bull snake and a rattler can breed, a bull snake is a colubrid which lays eggs and rattlers are vipers and give live birth which makes it impossible, its extremely hard to get too similair pythons to breed and actually have a successful birth rate

I question the biology myself, though I have found Bulls (more than one) with a pit viper head.  Yes....I know that a bull can imitate and yes I know the difference.  Stranger things in biology occur,  I saw a ringneck pheasant and chicken cross last week.

yeah bull snakes can flatten there head into a triangle so i have no idea, i have 4 snakes(use to have 13 but having a family and lack of space cut my collection down) and have studied them for awhile, the problem with snakes is having a successful birth rates the chances of one even getting pregnant is slim to impossible and to have a litter that will actually live is impossible, there is just way to many differences in the two snakes for it to happen, the genetic defects would probably kill them before they were born

Makes sense.  Their courtship ritual alone is unusual.
