Title: Section 672, 673 Raymond
Post by: brichards44 on May 28, 2010, 08:02:56 AM
I just got back into archery last season and decided to hunt the western side of the state. I have a friend who grew up in Raymond and says that there are a ton of elk there and it would be a good place to start. Any insight to these units. From what I can tell the terrain is really thick there.

The numbers are taking a hit with the hoof rot up the valley, you might be able to find a sickly one to sneak up on.  :dunno:

Used to see a lot of elk along the border between 672 and 660 when I bear hunted in there a few years ago.  Saw a monster in there just before bow season started, but when season opened and rigs really started hitting the hills I was done bear hunting.  Don't know if anyone got him or not.

West side elk hints....yes there are elk yes it is thick if it is a clearcut and has roads there will be gazillions of vehicles surrounding it...most of the elk will take up residence on private property and watch the pumpkins run around in their trucks and cars...if you are archery you may have a lot better luck as you can hunt before all of the pumpkins push them around....just start hitting the hills lots of miles on the boots seems to work best.....

Yea the wolves ate most all the deer and elk in 673 a person would have to be waaay over in 672 to have any chance at all. Most all the roads in 673 are locked all year best go 672 it;s all open.

All the elk died in the hoof rot epidemic...just metal statues left in their memory now.

No Elk, just look at the harvest figures!
Seriously it has very good elk numbers.  Lots of hunters so if you are not on elk you can always entertain yourself by calling in hunters.  The key is to get out and scout, starting now!

Good luck!
