Title: Any good spots for target practice around Seattle area?
Post by: Elk-aholic on May 28, 2010, 06:33:39 PM
Hello,

Have a question for locals...of Western WA.

Wondering if there are any good spots to shoot guns in Mts. or other safe areas, usually do shooting over on the Peninsula, but don't want to drive that far for open range target practice.  I am aware of Kenmore Gun Range, have been there a few times, but I am looking for other places to shoot out in the wilderness.  Any suggestions, willing to go any direction within an hour or two from Seattle.

2 hours or 3 whatever it takes it doesn't matter I would drive more than that if I was going to the peninsula anyway.

I usually head east on 90 and head north on 97...plenty of room that direction.

We go up to Skykomish and take the Beckler River Road, just past Skykomish out on HY. 2, on the left. It takes about one hour to get to Skykomish, perhaps a few minutes more. Take the first Left logging road and wind your way up to the top, about as far as you an go. It will take you a good 20 minutes to get up there but it flattens out with a knoll to your right and some clearing to your left before it heads down the ridge. There is usually nobody there and it's a great spot for shooting. The view is spectacular on a sunny day.

North bend has a ton of places and its about a half hour from you. Ellensburg is an hour and a half away, if you want to drive that far, pm me and I'll show you where to go. Good luck

Hey Rasbo, please don't send people down to the Rainier valley to shoot homey.;)

If you are looking for a range in that area, the Seattle Police Range is open to members and has a pretty nice facility.  It is just south of Boeing access road and E Marginal.  Pistol range, rifle range, and a trap range is almost open if not yet.  Not sure what the fee is, but it would be close for you if you are in the Seattle area.

There's Paul Bunyan range in south hill Puyallup 500yds. Also 2 around Black Diamond/Ravensdale, I know one is 500yds probably both. I think one is named Cascade Gun Range, the other Black Diamond Gun Club off the top of my head. Google for em they pop up easy. Paul Bunyan is farther for you but cheaper to join.

I have been to Paul Bunyan a couple times, but didn't know it had a 500 yard range.  Where is it at?

no matter what area you find make sure you leave it like you were never there, go early before anyone else is out and about, it seems that once people discover a good location its only a matter of time before it looks like the muckelshoots in auburn

I live in North Bend and not sure I would recommend this. You used to be able to shoot all over around the valley but too many tree huggers have moved to the outskirts, bought up huge tracks of land and so it is tough to find places that aren't private anymore. On top of that, if they hear anything remotely close to a gun shot they won't hesitate to call the cops or whoever will listen to them whine and moan.  :bash:
