i got out of the army in late 2009 and now im living in the great state of washington. (this is where the money brought me) so anyways, im looking for a new group of huntin buddies. all my other one live in idaho, which is where im from. elk hunting is great there. i have been told the elk is good here too. im looking around packwood and lewis river units. im blind as to where is should start from. i am a diehard bowhunter. i have no elk under my belt, but i took a great muley last year. a nice 5x5. so basically im someone you might want to hunt with. i really just want to get a little direction and hopefully make so good hunting memories. any one that can point me in the right area would be appreciated.

Thanks for your service, though it was Army :chuckle:.
I worked out of Morton when I got out of the military and loved it. After four years I transferred back home - Wenatchee area. While I worked in Morton I lived in Mossyrock. Great group of folks in the east end, and still have good friends in Mineral, Mossyrock, Randle, etc. I was very successful with elk with my bow when I lived there and also returned for hunts successfully. The last elk I killed in the east end was in 2004 and haven't been back since 2006. Numbers of archers have increased and the number of elk has decreased - my opinion and observations. I can't speak for the last five years.
I know there is a couple of guys on this site that live in the Mossyrock and one in Randal.
Do you want buddies to hunt with, or do you want to kill? I like killing, so I choose to hunt mainly alone which has worked great for me.
Good luck, and shoot me a PM for some broad ideas. The rest you'll earn through humping.

I bought a lifetime license for Idaho before I moved to Washington. If its not too late - I suggest you do the same. I go back and hunt in Idaho every year.

Talk to some members on this sight and do ALOT of scouting this year. Also go elknut's website and buy his instructional CD's NOW and listen to them over and over again and buy some calls and PRACTISE, PRACTISE, PRACTISE. You will learn more from his stuff in one year than in 10yrs learning by trial and error.
