Title: .41 mag ammo "Help"
Post by: JBar on June 02, 2010, 03:49:42 PM
Just picked up a .41 mag and I knew going in ammo would be hard to find. I found one box but was wondering if anyone knows of a shop around Puyallup that might have it in stock. I'm trying to avoid ordering it but if I have to I will. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Good luck. I've been waiting over a month just to get some Nosler JHP's for reloading. If you don't reload I'd recommend starting or just selling that .41, I think it's about dead.

What did you get?

I picked up a Taurus Tracker 425 in stainless. My dad has most of the stuff to reload for me, just need to get him some brass. The only problem is he is in Colorado. I'm just looking for a couple of boxes to hold me until I get back there in November. Like I said I hae one box right now I picked up from Cabelas over the weekend and I can order more I just wanted to avoid it. Stopped in Big J's in Orting tonight and Keith is going to special order some for me.

Thanks Superdown! Last time I was in Sportco I would have been lucky to find a box of 30.06 shells they went downhill big time in the last year or so. I will try them but I'm not holding my breath. I did see them at Midway and Cabelas online but again didn't want to order and pay the big ammo hazmat shipping cost I hear they charge.

By the way Gutpile good luck on those Noslers now that they had an explosion  :bash:

You've got a great gun! I had the Ti version up until about 3 weeks ago. Factory ammo can be hard to find locally and most of what you do find is a little on the lite side. It is deffinately a handloaders caliber.

Have you tried the Marksman on Canyon? I found some there once, but that has been a few years ago. Just watch out for some of the really heavy 41 mag loads. The Taurus has a pretty short cylinder, and they're not what I would consider strong guns. That said, I ran an awful lot of 250gr Cast Performance bullets over a case full of H110. My favorite load though is a 215gr cast bullet over 5.5gr of Trail Boss.

I just saw two box's of Remington yesterday at Bi-Mart in Ellensburg.  About $50 a box I think.  I have a Ruger Blackhawk in .41mag and have a lot of fun shooting it.  I dont think its dead at all, just over shadowed by 44mag.  I reload Hornady XTP's with H110 powder.

There is not a hazmat fee for loaded ammunition. It is only for reloading components (powder and primers.)  If Cabelas has 41 Mag ammo, you can order it and have it shipped to the Lacey store, and you will not pay any shipping fees at all.
