Is it just me or was there a shortage of spring bears posted up this year?
-
I agree. I think it was a slow year.
-
very slow IMO
-
I did see a few bears and even missed one :bash:. I still had a good season even without tagging a bear.
-
I saw 7 bears in my many days in the skagit. I had opportunities on 4 but they were last years cubs and 2 times I saw a sow with cubs. Even though I didn't punch a tag, I had a great time. :) Spent 20+ days in the woods, most with my son who is only 10. Saw lots of elk, deer and even got a coyote. So was I successful, I think so. ;) Even though it would have been nice to stick a bear with an arrow from my longbow, it was still a good experience for me and the son.

I will be giving it another try this afternoon, check my camera from last Friday.
I have to go to the in-laws on Saturday, and my Daughters Softball team has a double header Sunday, so will only have mornings.
I hope to get out at least 5 more times before the 15th...
But I had a good season no matter what happens, learned a lot, have quite a few pictures of bears on my trail camera, added to my call collection, did manage to call one in, but it came in behind me, downwind, and across an opening :bash:
All in all, not a bad start to my first year actually hunting bear instead of just carrying a tag, hoping to run into one.
-
I was just going over my pictures again, and I noticed..
Check out the shoulders on this bear !
-
:yike: WOW That is a nice bear. Shooter for sure.
-
I think its been a tough year but it ain't over yet, still some areas open.
-
It has been a slow year.
-
 :drool:Hope you get him!
-
That's a good looking bear. Shoot him for me
-
Thats why they call it hunting...
Glad to hear that those who didnt fill their tag still had a great time. ;)
Good lookin bear by the way.
-
yep very slow

:dunno: :dunno: :dunno: We definately gave it one hell of a try. We put over 9 miles in one weekend, just over 18 miles the next weekend, and almost 7 miles this last weekend. We had a blast out there and are hooked on this bear hunting stuff. We saw 2 bear, alot of elk, deer, a couple sasquatch, :o and had some great camps with my son. Memories that will last forever! That's what its all about. Passing my love for the outdoors on to the next generation.
-
a couple of sasquatch :yike: were are the pics :yike: :chuckle:

This season was pretty lousy over here in the Blue Mtns. It was much colder and wetter than usual. Spring bears really prefer to come out when it is sunny. I just did not see nearly as many bears as I normally do. I hunted hard over several weekends, glassing lots of country and hiking many miles but the bears were not out much. I still think they should switch the season to May 1st to June 15th. That would make so much more sense to me.
-
NI agree about switching the season to may 1st to June 15th. Then I could Turkey hunt for 15 days first.

that bear is laughing at you... :o and I love following your hunt.....I cant wait for fall ......
-
I think it is a bit slow for site members, but I am hearing of bears killed by non-site members so it is probably about average. :dunno:
-
I only heard of 2 bears in the skagit taken... Still waiting to see the video's from Hogsniper.... here he has a wild one.
-
I heard the same thing from hogsniper as well. I did not fill my skagit tag either. I made three seperate weekend trips with no luck and very bad weather. Oh well.

I had the 49 degrees north tag. We saw one bear and didn't see much sign until late in the season when it started raining like a son of a gun. I had a great time, learned the unit much better, and saw moose, elk, deer, and lots of turkeys and lots of ungrateful messy memorial day weekend campers.
I even learned a little about bear hunting in the spring.
All in all it was great to have an opportunity to hunt in the spring and will wait for fall to redeem myself. I think I put in 12 days of hunting, so much better than the alternative of "not' hunting.

I have heard from several people that 49 N was a real slow spring for Bear! I wanted that tag really bad, you get them in the fall.
-
If you draw 49 in the future, I will be a decent resource for places to start.

"I think that stump has a face..." :chuckle:
-
I had the small bear come through my trail on the 29th at 8:30PM, that was all last 7 days......
I guess my "hot spot" cooled off a bit. :bash:

"I think that stump has a face..." :chuckle:
Yes, pretty entertaining way to say bear.
-
I think I see a long day trip tomorrow. :) Sun is supposed to shine :whoo:
