Title: bent the shell casing while re-loading. What happened?
Post by: Jekemi on June 07, 2010, 04:36:59 PM: Any ideas what happened here. I pused the lever down all the way during the bullet seating and this is what happened. I tried it again (see the bullet on the Left, no powder or primer) just to see what would happen. Sure enough it happened again. I took the die out, put it back in, re-adjusted it and it seems to be working correctly now.

Post by: yorketransport on June 07, 2010, 04:49:52 PM: The die was screwed in too far and was trying to over crimp the neck.

Screwing the die body out reduced the amount of crimp being applied and fixed the problem.

You may want to take a look at Lee Factory Crimp Dies if you plan to crimp. They are a collet design that physically can't put downward pressure on the brass--so you will NOT be able to buckle your cases as pictured...even if your brass is WAYYY too long or the die is not adjusted correctly. Cheap at about $10 per die, too.

Post by: carpsniperg2 on June 09, 2010, 07:24:39 PM: yep the guys got you all straitend out. just had the die a little to far down. another thing that can cause that is the brass is to long if you have the die set up for new brass and all locked down and your reloading "used brass" is a little to long and not trimed to size. it can cause that as well.

I screwed out the die and that stopped the over crimp
I'm using Lee lubricant. That makes everything work smoother
I'm getting the hang of it and appreciate all the good advice.
