Title: first time digiscoping...
Post by: jameslong on June 08, 2010, 07:07:20 PM: these are the first decent digiscoping pics i have from this weekend. i took these (except the first pic) through the fixed 30x lens of my spotting scope. i'll be working with the 60x lens this weekend if i have time.

Post by: jameslong on June 08, 2010, 07:33:33 PM: well since i am a complete newbie to digiscoping i don't know a lot, but i have learned a few tricks from some of the pages i've found on the subject. these are just suggestions but they seem to work so far...but for the most part it's trial and error.
1. use a camera with 3x optical zoom, this allows you to zoom in close enough to get rid of the black edges (vignetting). you don't need a huge lens, thats what the scope is for.
2. turn off digital zoom.
3. get a good camera adapter. for the price, about 50 bucks, the baader is the best overall choice imo.
I'm still learning as i go and will be glad to share what i learn. also if anyone else has any help to offer i would appreciate it. thanks!

Post by: jameslong on June 10, 2010, 01:32:40 PM: so far i would say this scope is awesome. the clarity is really amazing and the tripod is extemely well built and stable. the weatherman says sat should be clear and sunny...i hope, so i can do some work with the 60x lens. thanks again for the great comments! btw i use a two second delay when i took the photos to eliminate as much movement as i can.

I bought the scope as a "kit" including tripod, hard case. It has two eyepieces, a fixed 30x and 25-60x zoom. 899.95
My camera is just a simple 150.00 fuji I bought at Walmart about a year and a half ago. It's 10mp and has 3x optical zoom.
The adapter is a Baader Microstage II, approx. 50.00
