Anybody else noticing an abundance of ducks still around? I see tons of duck and lots of ducklings everywhere I turn this upciming year looks good for local shooters. Stopped by a local spot and saw 10-15 woodies which was kinda crazy never seen them there before.
-
yeah I'm really excited about the wood duck populations. In 12+ years of duck hunting I had never seen them until about 4 years ago I saw a nice pair on a lake in pierce county, we let them live. Then this year I shot my first wood duck, and this spring I saw a couple mated pairs with ducklings in Auburn.

Guys, TONS of wood ducks live and breed in Washington. The deal is most head out by mid October. They are like doves..................first cold snap and they head south.
-
Lots of birds in areas with water. They will disperse towards August as many of the smaller seasonal waters dry up.

I have noticed alot more( woodies) then the past few years and wondered if anyone else was seeing the same numbers. I think with the mild conditions this year it held alot more waterfowl here then in the past few years. I have also seen better numbers of geese as well.

Meats is right. I see quite a few wood ducks until the first cold weather. Has anyone noticed an increase of shovelers?

Not to much of an increase, only saw a few flocks. They seem to head a little further south from us. We have more feed up north, lots of mallards then when the grass floods, wigeon and pintails. We saw an increase of teal this season. Flocks of 120 + at times coming into the decoys.

Nice, I saw a bunch of teal as well, but it seemed like the widgeon were more plentiful than ever last year.
