Really thinking about pulling the trigger on joining Deadmans Creek over in Pomeroy so just wanted to check and see if anyone has first hand knowlegde of the place good or bad. Thought hard about Family Hunt Club but kept hearing not so good things although it is much closer to home. What do you think? I'll still be re-joining Cooke too for the good work out for the dog and only two hours from home.

I think you can do just as well on the feel free to hunt and register to hunt areas around there. :twocents:

If you want to spend the money it will be worth it. You'll get plenty of property to hunt on without much competition. Could be a bad year for pheasants though with this wet spring. Course I'm not sure it can get any worse than it was last year.

I used to hunt what is now Deadman's Creek in the early 90's. It was open to the public for birds (had to pay for deer) and you would sign up in the Central Ferry store and get a little yellow card that was good for the year. I used to do really well there - lots of good places and tons of walking to do.
I don't know how it is now that you have to pay - it's been a long time since I've hunted it.

So how well does the feel free to hunt and register to hunt work out? Hate to go all the way over to be crowded or skunked. They get $750.00 for a single membership and $1200.00 for the family.

I haven't been over there since 2006. We did ok and it wasn't very crowded. Things may have changed by now..... :dunno:
I did get tired of the drive over there though. So I would try to go over for a week at a time....like Thangsgiving.
If you've got the money to spend, you would be better off having the option to hunt the outfitter areas and the feel free to hunt and register areas so that you could get to know the whole area. Then maybe the next year you will decide to skip the outfitter......

lots of ground to hunt i joined last year and signed up again this year, you'll get your chance at a limit almost every day but you gotta walk for em.This year could be very bad though due to the wet spring, i'm a little worried about the bird population.

Hey thank you all for the input. I think that it sounds good to go over there and have a lock and then also explore the register and feel free to hunt land as well! I have never been in that part of the State at all. As much as I love summer can't wait for bird season! Thanks again guys
