Would like some help on access for elk hunting mt whittier elk area west side
any advice would help. would like to try scouting as soon as possible. Even phone numbers would help

My father had this tag last year. black powder. we say lots of bulls a few nice ones. this is a very tough hunt. not much cover and they can see you from a long way off. be prepared to pack all you need in because you are going to have to stay up there to get a shot at a nice bull. At least 5 miles in to get to the good area. good luck

This is a tough hunt for sure. If you get a bull in this unit......well you earned it. Good luck and just remember that a bad day of hunting is better than a good day of work.

I drew muzzle cow tag for Mt Whitier this year. I've never hunted it before, but I enjoy tough terrain as long as it is not entirely too thick. I typically hunt solo, so anyone that wants to scout or hunt or trade scout findings w/me can send me a message. there's very few tags altogether for this elk area, & since its draw only, I'm not afraid of sharing a "honey-hole" if I find one, as long as you'll trade info w/ me. If anyones got the Bull tag, I've got the cow tag, we could hunt the same heard without getting in each others way.

Did you look at the boundry of this unit before you applied?

This was the hunt i wanted...Very rugged. Good luck and have fun... Hope you don't give up before you finish the hunt.

Good luck. I hope you have at least 4 guys to help you pack. Most people that put in for it have no idea what they are getting into. Everyone says they love tough country and want to get way back. Now you have it and I hope it works out for you. You will have to be a "youngbull" to get one out of there. I think droptine could tell you that.

I looked at applying for this one too. Ended up changing my mind after a close look at the unit on a map. It will be a killer to pack one out of there! The idea of hauling one out of there kept me from applying this year mainly due to lack of any reliable buddies to FOR SURE be there to help. It is a very intrigueing hunt though and there will be LOTS of elk for you to hunt. If you would like some advice on how to access let me know, but there is no easy way. Good luck!
