After 12 years of putting in I finally drew a late tag!! Has anybody else had this tag?? And if yes lets hear some stories and pictures if you got them. Friend of mines wife killed a hog in that unit last year. So as you can imagine I cannot wait.
-
Congratulations! That hog you speak of was in the EHJ and what a deer it was. Please honor that tag, why do people get late tags and then shoot 160 class deer? That makes no sense at all.

I love it when people shoot small bucks with special tags. Makes for bigger bucks when I draw it.
Nice Tag by the way!!!!!

You dont know if the article is online any were do ya?

I wonder if your friend actually told you what unit they got that buck in. :chuckle:
-
I know I almost posted somthing about that... :chuckle:

, why do people get late tags and then shoot 160 class deer? That makes no sense at all.
thats a complete *censored* statement. there are plenty of reasons to shoot deer other than score.
-
Many people have never seen a 160 buck on the hoof. There are A LOT of "180" bucks running around out there that go 130 or less. A trophy is in the eye of the beholder and as JDB said, there are plenty of reasons to shoot other than score. I've got a couple 140 bucks that most of you guys would give a left nut to shoot
-
The buck I shot in the Entiat in '04 scored 162 something and I was plenty happy with it. I didn't realize a 160 buck was considered a dink. :dunno:
-
A trophy is in the eye of the beholder
I couldnt agree more... Buts its always nice when that trophy is also considered a trophy by B&C... lol..
-
A 160 buck is a really nice buck in this state. That being said, I ate an Entiat archery tag (first time in about 15 years I didn't shoot a buck - knock on wood) because I decided I was looking for that hog. Passed up a few in the 120 to 140 class range and a bunch in the 110 to 120 range.

Here's what not to shoot! Taken last year on with the late chewuch tag.

Got any pictures of Chewuch bucks Bone? Would be fun to score them... or at least drool and daydream... Maybe we can make slinger's head explode with anticipation and his tag will go back into the pot.. :chuckle:

That's a stud buck mkcj

Yes, let those rag-horns grow :chuckle:.
-
I'd have a hard time passing that buck up, that's for sure.
-
Great buck - congratulations!
-
Thats what you have to do halflife, to shoot a trophy unless you are just plain lucky. Gotta pass on the smaller ones to get the bigger ones. last year there was zero percent success on this tag hunt I am headed to in Nevada yet they averaged 40 bucks per day. To me that means stalking them must be fairly difficult.
-
In case your wondering that buck is 26.5" wide and scored 163+ there is only 2 1/8" difference between the 2 sides those are my numbers also have not had it scored officially. I got him back from my taxidermist a month ago and look at him everyday up on the wall and just say Thank you!

That's cool on the Nevada draw. I'll see if I can get a picture of the Nevada buck my buddy shot last year (rifle). Didn't score well - sort of short tined - but it was 30" wide.
Good luck on your hunt! I hope we see some pictures of a whopper that you bring back.
-
yeah right I love the fact that people think, that because the magizines are full of 200'' bucks that 160s are small, or they dont even know what one really looks like. Those are same people that kill 18'' 4X4s in general season and curse washington for not having bigger bucks, not knowing that they are the real problem.
-
Thats a great buck mkcj  Sure there might be bigger but trophy is in the eye of the beholder :twocents: And your right head hunter there's some monster bucks in wa.

Eastman's hunting journal
-
It's very wet and mild there this spring they got another .69" of rain last week everything is very green. The deer are very healthy from the light winter with great horn growth even on the small deer I think there's going to be some real hog's taken this season.
-
I gotta quit reading this stuff and looking at these pictures! Its making me go crazy. I have a feeling its gonna be a long 4 months.lol
-
A dink 160 buck like that one will work for me with my late tag this year...
-

A near perfectly symetrical rack like that can score 10 3/8" and I'll still take it any day!! That's just a fantastic buck!
-
bow4elk I see your a pope and young scorer were can I bring my mount and have it scored? and how much does it cost Thank you Mark.

My left nut has been disabled. You can have it if you'll point me in the direction of some of those so-called 180 class bucks. :chuckle:

Why not cut it off then? :chuckle:
-
Ballast.

Nice buck mkcj! That's a 180"er to many........and a shooter in my opinion. :)
-
There are some good bucks in there good luck...I hope I draw next year too.....Lots of good places to hunt in there.
-
Boy no kidding...very nice mkcj!!!! I put in for that tag every year, its the only one i put in for and have yet to be drawn. But my day will come. mabey...lol! I hunt that unit anyway during the regular season but it sure would be fun to go back over in November!!!

Lucky bugger shoot a hog
-
I was camping in the 8-mile area last weekend and saw a dandy up high. I was a little too slow with the camera or I would have a pic for you. He was a very tall, 26-28" wide, 4x4. Horns weren't super massive but he still had some growing to left in him.
-
300 I was up there on the 3-4Th and seen 6 bucks 3 shooters all the deer look really good this year going back up this weekend when I get home I will post a couple picture's
-
I highly suggest you take a 6 pack of Bug spray with ya the Flies/Skeeters were brutal up there last wk end. >:(
-

Man that top one is old !
-
don't suppose you wanna tell me your hotspots MKCJ???? LOL
-
Following those that post to this thread... Many of you hunt this unit. So do I. I've hunted it off and on for years. I don't know a damn one of you!!! :chuckle: Any one of you could have been a camp neighbor and I'd/we'd have never known it.
Yes, it would be sweet to go back during November for this hunt. Alas, I was not drawn again. But the temptation being what it is, I still might go in November if I don't hunt Elk at that time, just to camp and take a lookie see...
-Steve
-
slinger I'll be talking to you and will be up there in Nov. if you need help. Sunday morning I was up Ramsey cutting wood for furniture and seen a really nice 3 point not a monster but a really nice deer 18+ wide and just as tall nice long tines even on both sides sorry no camera.
-
Sounds good MKCJ. I was just kidding about your hotspot, but any info would be greatly appreciated.
