Title: bull trout
Post by: 270Shooter on July 05, 2010, 10:13:38 PM
I think I caught a bull trout today in the naches river, can anyone verify what it is? Just to be clear, I didn't take it out of the water or even touch it, I just gave him some slack and off he went.(http://C:\Documents and Settings\Shelly\My Documents\My Pictures\1\jimsfish2.jpg)

i call them squafish(spelling). i think that they're actually called northern pikeminnows. and they have a bounty on them.

tough to tell from the picture, but I can't see an adipose fin there...not sure what you have.  If it was a bull trout, congrats and glad it was released without being harmed.

Squaw fish. the PC name for them is Northern Pike minnow. I have never understood why they call them a minnow.  :dunno:

Kill every single one you catch. They basically live off steelhead and salmon fry. BAD FISH!! Like was said above they have a pretty good size bounty in the Columbia river on them. Some guys have make over 100k fishing for them. :yike: The more you catch the more they give you per fish. They allso have bonus tagged fish.

Looks like a squaw to me.  You'll know a bull when you catch one...  Big mouths, sharp teeth and they'll strike at just about anything you throw in the water.

I never realized that they were in rivers like the naches, I thought they were only on the columbia. Live and learn I guess, I will kill the rest of these that I catch.

why would they have tagged a bounty problem fish like a squaw?

dolly vardens are really pretty fish though, you'll know when you catch one.

So that more people will fish for them.

Caught like 30 more squaws the other day, and my friend caught this big rainbow, took like 4 minutes to land, and she was full of eggs. Put her back in the water, and away she went.(http://C:\Documents and Settings\Shelly\My Documents\My Pictures\1\cody's steelhead\0707101513a.jpg)
