Title: Riffe Lake Bass?
Post by: PolarBear on July 09, 2010, 01:05:15 AM
Howdy
I am towing the old Skeeter up to Riffe Lake this weekend with the family (and a few friends) for some fishin' and goofing around.  I have never fished it before and was wondering if any of you could give me some advice on bait selection for smallies?  I'm not sure whether I should throw tubes, drop shot, crank baits or what.  I have been out of the bassin' thing so long that portion of my brain has left.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!

the kosmos flats should be a good bet right now.  i like jigging around the boat launch at taidnapam park too.

I'll give it a try.  I'm taking a guy who grew up on the lake, knows where the fish are but has no idea how to fish them.   :dunno:  He spent all his time going after trout and never targeted bass.  I'm hoping to get on the lake at the butt crack of dawn and fishing until it gets hot and then tow the kids on the tube.

If you launch at Kosmos, go straight across onto the flats.  I would start out the morning with a blue rattle trap. See if the reaction bite is there. If not go to tubes along the bottom and then switch over to drop shotting a little deeper out off of the flats.

My best color on Riffe for some reason is blue.

Good luck and post some pics.

Thanks for the advise folks!  Unfortunately we didn't get to the lake until around 10:30 and never got to go fishing.  (had to take everyone on boat rides instead)  :(
There was a tournament going on but it seemed that nobody was catching fish.  Now that I have a better feel for the lake, I'll go up without kids in tow and do some actual fishing.
