6 years ago I got ten points on a poaching case. Last year I put in for the wenaha with 19 points and didn't get drawn. Drew this year with 20. I was starting to not believe in system.Man I saw picture of a monster today from around there good luck have fun

It seems to me that if you have 10 points times that by ten and that is how many opportunities you have to draw (100) It seems the more points you have sooner or later you should draw. From what I understant 2 points is 2x2= 4 3x3=6 and so on. If you have 1 point that is all the draw you get is 1. If I'm wrong say so. Seems the more points the more chances. Just gotta have patience I guess and enjoy the hunt you have. I can't wait for our general season Mulie hunt with the kids. Missed it last year on a Blues Bull permit. I just enjoy hunting, don't necessarily have kill a big one, or one at all. Love watching the kids kill one, those hunts have been some of the best I've ever had. Just being possitive.
You are right but it is still a lottery and a guy who is in with 1 point may draw the only tag in a unit whil the guys who are in 196 times strike out. Its all luck still. And 3X3 is 9. :chuckle:

I mentioned this in my review this Spring, but they should allow for people to put in for any elk permit. If you draw, then buy the corresponding East or West tag.A Men :brew:

I talked to the head of special permits for the wdfw today about the new system, probably no changes for 3 years but he did say they are considering making another category. The new category if they decide would be open to those with 10 points or more only, like special elk permits and other game species. They would allocate 25% of the tags given out for the particular unit to those eligible, I like the Idea myself.-Thats what they were suppost to do this year!! But what about the hunts with 3 or less tags?? Did he say anything about those??

I've watched several of these type posts and talked to lots of people in the past about the whole point system and special permits and one option has come to mind that I don't think has been put out there for discussion. Now this is just for talking purposes and I don't know if I'd go for it or not. What if for those few really good trophy hunts and rut permits, when you put in and didn't draw, you couldn't hunt elk at all for the year. Like I said, I'm not sure I'd do it, but I do know a few people that have been putting in for the October Naches tag since they started the points in 1996 and have never drawn it. One friend with 15 points now has only hunted a few times in all those years as he doesn't have a big desire to hunt spikes. What if for guys like him or others who are reaching a ripe old age that they may not be able to even go if they ever draw, could just put in for one of those areas or nothing? I would think that the competition would go way down for those tags and would also drop a few people out of other secondary areas when they didn't draw. I know for me it would be a huge decision, but maybe, just maybe if the odds were a lot better, I might sacrifice one or two of my dwindling hunting years to try it.
Just a thought....Don't shoot me!! :)

Since they elimated the 3 day wait for applicants years ago, I really doubt a no hunt clause would fly.

Lonedave...another idea... go back to pre 1998 rules where you could buy a general tag and start hunting saturday, OR buy a permit tag, and if not drawn you must wait until the following monday. I know it makes too much sense and would dry up their coffers!

That would help or 50% of the tags!! Atleast in the quality pool, and if you apply for these hunts being not able to apply in the Bull catagory, helping the Bull odds! And also in the quality if you apply for these you have a 3 day wait till you can start your season like it use to be! And jack the cost way up on the cost to apply for the quality hunts! And limit it to 1 hunt choice, And.... I drew 15th in my 1st choice for quality and 29th for my second choice in the quality.-I think he was meaning pick between the once in alifetime hunts or deer and Elk! That would be a great move to increase draw odds!
