Did anyone else fish area 10 this morning? I got one small hatchery king at first light when I was putting the gear down the first time and only a shaker after that, a little pesto and garlic in the fish with a couple handfuls of alder chips in the bbq mmmmmmmm.

I was there the last few days and it was slow going, the launch said 10, 11, and 5 for the three days. We landed one small king, more like a prince since he was all of 14"

Have gone off the Edmonds pier many times over the years with good success. The few times I've gone this year nobody has caught anything. Ask around and only know of a few landed this summer. Is terrible.

This is the main reason I quit fishing the sound and started fishing the coast again..I can hall the boat down to Westport, spend a few days camping with my wife, and catch a bunch of fish, get some crab for dinner, and have a heck of a weekend, and spend half the money..

Heading for area 10 again in the morning, the weather is looking likely to be a lot better, hopefully the fishing will be too.

Port Townsend is the hot spot right now!
-
Port Townsed is a hot spot for sure. We have doing well fishing right of the bottom from 60- 200 ft. White lighting Coho Killer rigged with no flasher. Running flasher off the ball. So far the nicest was a Fraser marbled. White and red. Great eats.(http://)

dang nice fish!~ :o

I can concur. Mid Channel was good! Got a 22 Friday as our biggest. Here is my 27.5 from sat!
-
Nice fish. We nabbed a couple of 20's at Point Wilson and Marrowstone years ago, weather can get really rough blowing from the north. Coho fishing can be great there as well, some guys do well from shore.
-
Ya these 2 bigger Kings both came from the upper end of the bank near Pt Wilson. Lots of bankies yesterday and Sat but you had to be close to see the land. Foggy both days with awesome water conditions. Couldent see land from about 1/3 mile out. It was like being the only ones there.
I should have bought a derby ticket though. Dident even know one was going on. :bash:

One king landed today about 15lbs and one silver lost at the boat :/

at point defiance?
is everyone pretty much using the standard dodger + hoochie + smelly jelly + 60ft downrigger setup?
-
Most people I know use a flasher, not a dodger. IMHO smelly jelly sucks, it’s messy and does not produce as well as a strip of herring on the 1st hoochie hook.
Coyote spoons or Coho killer, either behind a flasher or fished above one – usually out fish hoochies.
-
interesting, thanks for the feedback ;)
-
We threw everything at em. The needle fish hootch with a strip outfished the coho killers for us. But coho killers outfished regular size hootchies. These fish are eating thin needlefish in this area. So the needlefish hootch overcame. matching the hatch worked for us.

No we were over near jeff head this morning running hoochies behind flashers with shrimp scent from about 15ft to about 75ft today.

Jeff Head is the one place I really have not had luck. caught about 60 flounder one day though.

We ran the UV flasher with the cohokiller in 60-120 and got into them earlier this week. Still it was slow, I'm heading to the coast for some slabs (if we can find em').

So after getting ZERO hits off the Edmonds pier ALL summer (for kings) I finally hoooked into one tonight. And then screwed it up and lost it. About a month back I used this rod/reel on the Cowlitz for some late springer run salmon and hooked into one. It took off, took some line, then snap! A few seconds is all I had before he just broke my line like it was nothing. So after that I loosened the drag more. Well for the pier I never tightened it back to where I normally have it. Was jigging in and had a bunch of weight on my line so went to set the hook. Only because of my drag, when I went to set the hook it let out line and didn't get me much power. Tried to tighten it up really quickly and went to set the hook again. Only this time I guess the fish was swimming towards me so though the drag could handle it, I couldn't get a good hook set again. Reeled in really quickly to take up any slack, brought my rod up to make sure it was still there and sure was. Fish kept swimming towards me and before I could try and set the hook for good it spit my jig.
Finally had a hook up and lost it. My fault though, has bugged me all night too
