Title: Taneum unit: ORV trails?
Post by: smartazz171 on July 24, 2010, 11:16:58 PM
Ok so I used to hunt in Manastash unit for deer So i'm no stranger to ORV trails, But went up scouting 336 and, as expected, trails are everywhere.  Problem though, Every trail that I saw allowed the typical non motorized traffic (horse, foot, Mtn. Bike) but what's with every trail also allowing the dirt bikes!?  I'm fine with have specified ORV trails, but either have them open to quads (which I use) as well as Bikes, or just non-motorized travel.  I hate the idea of going and Hiking 3-4 miles up a trail that I know Some Jack--- with a dirt bike can reach in 20 min! Sorry to sound bitter but I wish there was some uniformity to it all.  I have a Bike but I'm sure not going to ride it up trails with my bow over my back!

Sorry just venting....

It is a multi-use area.  I would rather walk too, but that area and the areas around it are open to all kinds of travel types.  Don't feel guilty about using your bike.  I've seen a lot of those fat cat trail bikes up there and those people seem to do alright.  I think the elk are use to the sound of motors on the trails, it is when the motor stops or slows down when they get jumpy.
