Hmmmm.... tempting  Is this invite open to anyone? Do you have room for 2 more? Not sure if I could make it (if I was welcome) but if I could I'd like to bring my boy too.
-
Yeh I can add more.
Just don't want to cancel. Been freinds with the skipper a long time and like to fish on his boat.
-
They have been limiting on fish. If you want to catch a limit and have a good time it would be well worth it. I was down there two weeks ago.
-
I got a new job. This will be my first day off. can't wait :rockin:
-
Are you actually fishing bouy 10...or going out in the ocean. If bouy 10, I'm assuming some fish are there?
Thanks
-
Thats why they call it fishing. Ya don't really schedule a meeting with the fish. :P :chuckle:
It is the opener for Bouy 10, and yes there are plenty of fish.
-
There is a chance I can make this but still trying to sort out basically money and travel costs before I can commit. Never been down to Ilwaco, I stayed in Astoria when I fished Bouy 10 last year - do you know of a good (cheap) motel close by your meeting spot and if so about how much? Also, what do you normally tip your guy? I'd be coming down from Woodinville & I'd prefer to come down early Sat so I dont have to make a midnight drive down there and then drive home after fishin all day. Thanks
-
Chataugua lodge or hotel 68 buks mention Pacific salmon charters
-
Cool thanks - let me think it over (talk to the Mrs) and I'll let you know for sure either way by tomorrow.
-
okay hope ya make it.
-
Yeah - we are good to go! I reserved a room for Sat night at the Chataugua in Long Beach (I hope thats the right place) I'll be coming down with my 11yo son. PM Sent your way.
-
Sent ya a PM
We got 8 now and I think the boat is full.
We should have a great time
See ya there.

The report in the Times today looks promising! Its picking up down there in time for the opener. I'm getting pumped, I hope we do well!

"The ocean from Westport to Ilwaco has come alive with chinook and coho, but La Push and Neah Bay have been downright slow.
"Westport was the hot spot (1.4 fish per rod) for about three chinook landed for every coho," said Wendy Beeghly, a state Fish and Wildlife biologist. "The Columbia River area (Ilwaco) saw about 1.2 fish per person, and it was mostly coho although a good number of chinook showed up, which is encouraging for the Buoy 10 (Aug. 1) opener."
-
I'm pumped. I'm hearin good chatter from down there.
I sent ya my number if ya have questions.
When you get there on Sat., drive down to the docks and check out the area.
I'm told there may be go-cart racing afterwards in Longbeach, my son is talkin trash already. We'll see.
-
Just got back from the coast.
We didn't fish Buoy 10, instead we headed for the ocean.
Long run out, bar was pretty roley poley. Lots of chumming going on all around the boat.
My son and his Friends tried the drink all nite-fish all day method :bdid: :bash: 2 of them didn't see much fishin time, alot of rail time tho. :chuckle:
Glad to see Ryan and Jerrod get to go :rockin: :brew:. Jerrod donated his breakfast and then was bouncin around the boat. Ryan , well , he survived. :chuckle: they got 3 nice fish.
Had 14 fishers on the boat. Limited all 14, 28 fish. 3 real nice kings. :IBCOOL:
Got to see a bunch of gray whales. 2 complete breeches. a lot of tail fluke waving.
Filleted 3 of ours, 3 to go. I'm dead. Gonna post some pics tomorrow.
Anyone want some crab bait, I will have 6 carcs in the freezer.
-
Haha, a guy can get a lot of rod/reel time in if he can keep from getting sick. :chuckle:
-
You all limited the boat, nice!. Sounds like a good time was had ;) Except maybe for the chummers :chuckle:
-
I was puking my guts out! :puke: But I had a blast! Meanwhile, while I'm choking up my esophagus my boy is eating beef jerky and chewing green apple gum while dancing around on the deck - I bet I was as green as his gum! He is a little trooper, no dramamine or anything and I cant believe he wasnt sick at all, showed ol Dad up for sure! :o I am just now recovered from all the *chumming* & driving! I'll post our pics later today. Thanks again for the invite - it was a great day!
-
Oh hell you didn't look thaaaaaaaaaaaat bad.
I was happy we got some good fish.
Robbie is a trooper, he will search and search for fish.
Glad ya got home okay.
I pretty much died when we got home.
-
Yeah me too - me & Jared unloaded the fish & lunch food and crashed within 10 minutes of walking thru the door. Took monday off and slept til 1130! I was wiped out and the drive home was brutal! We got home about 845pm and spent an hour & half in stop & go bumper to bumper traffic from Olympia to the Tacoma Dome. I was not a happy traveler at all!
But I had a great time and got lots of fish for the freezer! Jared had a great time too and keeps telling me he had fun and he's not big into fishing and hardly ever goes with me. So I was glad he enjoyed it and the action was hot & heavy to keep him interested. Those fish were gorgeous and it was a good deal too. If I ever get over the stigmatism of getting deathly seasick from 4ft swells & less, :ACRY: I may consider doing it again! :chuckle:
-
Here are some of my pics. I wish I would have gotten out my cam & taken pics holding the fish as they came on the boat. They look so much better that way but I was feeling too crappy to go inside & get the camera! Look at my coho 3rd from the left in the last pic - its bigger than both the kings!

More

Here are some from my Buoy 10 trip last year. We fished in the river at Astoria and the water was a bit calmer but this year's trip was alot more productive!!

Glad to see you got into em, just currious if you know where abouts the boat got into em, don't need #'s but wondering if you headed north or west of the CR bouy any mention of depth or temp flaoting around the deck.
-
Best I can tell ya
We were 4-6 miles west and 1-2 miles north of the bouy at the mouth.
300-350 ish depth.
The storm they had scattered the fish, so we trolled and hunted.
I heard the boats south of the river did about 40% of what we did.
The skippers were likin the winds and weather to bring the fish back together this week. they all had high hopes based on the predictions.

Wow brutal drive is right. I dd a few like that to Camano island.
Next year, 2 dramamine the 2 days before in the morn, and 1 on fishin day, you will be good to go.
Did he get the blood stains out of his sweats or is keeping them as a trophy. :chuckle:
Maybe next year we can do a HW trip with a bunch of guys.
I sent you a PM
-
Yeah his sweats must have come clean cuz when I asked momma about it she said "what blood stains? I didnt see any so they must have..." - but she is not the most observant person by any means! (maybe I should try coming home with some lipstick on my collar & see if she notices!) Poor kid is probably walking around with blood stained sweats right now, he's on vacation at Silverwood in ID with my mom! :chuckle:
