I'm up at 5am every day. I was sitting at the kitchen table eating my Rice Crispys and drinking some coffee, when my chocolate lab starts growling. I look out the sliding glass door to see a coyote standing by our back fence. He must be infested with fleas because he is constantly digging his belly with his hind leg. His tail looked a little mange also. I hop up and make a bee line for the gun safe. Hit the combo on the first try (must be luck :P) and pulled out the .270 and loaded up a shell. I slide the door open a few inches and I have him dead to rights. Then I realize it is 5:30am, and I am just off 116th in Marysville. That might just wake up a few of the neighbors. :chuckle:
Plan B. I return to the gun safe, unload and put away the .270 and grab the .22 and load 3 rounds into in. By the time I get back to the door, he had moved down to my right a little bit and I would have to shoot through two strands of chain link fence to hit him. :bdid:
My only option at that point is to try and make it to the back fence and get a shot at him along the fence. By this time Wyle E has decided he had better get out of dodge. He walks a short distance and turns back around to look at me. I decide to not take the shot as there are some houses about 500yds away and about 45° either way of where I would be shooting.
I will be watching for him tomorrow..... :mgun:

Damn I used to hate when my wife said that,,,,Hope ya nail the mangy dog
-
you should have blasted it. nobody reports exhaust backfires to the police anyway ;)
-
psh. everyone needs a 0530 wakeup anyways.
-
He didn't come back this morning. I was ready for him. Yea, I thought that not many people would be able to figure out where one shot came from. Especially if they are sleeping. :chuckle:

They key is to keep the end of the barrel inside your house.... It reduces the noise considerably.... now every one else in your house would be awake tho! :twocents:

I think I would rather deal with the cops on this issue than my wife if I woke her up. :chuckle:

BLAST HIS @SS! Your neighbords probably wouldnt even know what happened by the time they rub the sleep from their eyes & wipe the drool from their mouths! That is until they see you taunting the dead yote in your backyard and dancing around with your finger pointed at his beak! :IBCOOL: (wait, am I the only one that does that?) :chuckle:

Given the chance again, he will have lead for breakfast. :mgun:

You're a wise man IMO :chuckle:

Well, he came by again for a visit this morning. But this time I spotted him at the end of our driveway. The problem is, there is a house directly across the street at the end of it where it meets the main road. One of these day.. I WILL get him. :chuckle:
-
If he is like the last coyote that I popped, he'll keep to a pretty good schedule. We had one taking chickens every day - took me a few days to figure out her schedule, but then when I did - well, she doesn't take her pups chicken from my house anymore.

I catch coyotes crossing my yard sometimes. I can lay in bed and look out my window, so as long as its lite............ There is 1 house close to mine though, near that darn bedroom window too, and them neighbors came from the city but are really quite nice. Long story short, I have a 22-250 and they don't like it at all, that thing is loud. Problem is if I use my 10-22 sometimes the coyotes/critters run off, so I decided that a new .17 would be a fair compromise......It was the neighborly thing to do.
Had a bobcat crawl off into the bush after I hit him with the 10-22, and it was thick where he crawled into I tell you what. It ain't no fun stuffing your face into ferns and briars lookin for a pissed off critter with claws n teeth n such, don't care if he did only weigh 17 lbs.

17lbs of spring steel and raw hide ready to whoop your butt. :chuckle:
I make it a habit to unlock the gun safe when I first get up in the mornings now. That way I have a head start. :chuckle:
