I wish tomorrow would hurry up and get here  Cant wait to wake up at 4 AM hit the road get eaten by bugs, and hopefully get a bruin. I feel all giddy like a kid waiting for chirstmas! :'( :chuckle: :IBCOOL: Anybody else feeling time going to slow for them?? Thanks to all of you that have given me expert advice these past few months, and I cant wait to them out :hunter: :bfg:

I think I am cursed for something. Shot a black bear today, and coudlnt find him to save my life. From 0800 until an hour ago, me and my friend were looking. Found plenty of blood at the sight where I shot him, and a good trail for about a 1/4 mile, then nothing. Its like he flew away. This bear scared the crap out of me :yike: I had just left my truck, and was walking up the road, and the fog was super thick. I was using this hoochie Mama call to mask my sounds, and out of nowhere this bear comes charging down on me. I just started shooting, and he jumped back, and heaed up the hill. I fired my last shot at him, and I think it hit his gut. From there he stopped and stgarted thrashing around in the brush, and gave a few bellows. I decided that with the thick fog, and not being able to see him, I should wait for him to bleed out. SO I head back to my truck and use the onstart to call for help, and a hour later my friend arrives. We head back up the road, and the bear is gone >:( I really wish I would had said screw you safety, and common sense, and went in after that bear :dunno: He appeared to be a big bear, but then again anything running at you appears big :chuckle: I dont think he was human aggressive, but with the thick fog, and me using a hoochie mama, he thought he had a free meal. Hopefully I can get back up there again and hunt. If anybody finds a bear with three bullet holes in it let me know :bash:
-
if i was you i would go back up and take a look around. i would go to last blood and start griding the area. i am sure you looked good but i would not give up yet.
-
Yeah already on that, have a couple of friends coming to pick me up and we are heading back out. Im too tired to drive there and back, and having one more set of eyes will help.
-
I agree I would still be up there looking. Bears are pretty good at crawling in and under things to die. Look everywhere even places you don't think they would be.
-
yeah also changing levels helps somtimes as well. good luck to you guys. hope you can find him if there is a wind get down wind of the area you think he might be. a lot of time you can smell them if you are down wind of them. and that is a true fact. not just pulling you leg. we have smelled them before we have seen them before.

Is this Bear in Skagit Co? If so I might be up for a cheap thrill looking for a wounded Bear besides I've got nothing better to do. Helped Wea300 track & find a wounded Bear a couple yrs ago I'm not sure why he was always 75' behind me. :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

If I was closer Id be right there bud, as Carp said follow your nose and look for bees swarming his hide :twocents:
-
Remember bears love to double back into a thick nasty area so they can watch their back trail and ambush whats following them.

Good luck I am pulling for you. If I didnt have a full schedule I would volunteer my efforts.
-
Damn, I hate hearing these stories. Seth, do be afraid to ask for help, even if you want to look tomorrow, I can help.
-
I have duty tommorow, but if I can get off work at a good time on tuesday I will be heading up that way, again. Tempted to take my labs for a walk :o  The path that was next to where the bear went thrashing was a creek, that had slow water. Me and my friends, searched above it, below it, and went through the berries :bdid: and nothing. There was some crows going crazy on the hill above us. So we made the steep climb, to find it was a dead skunk, no bear :'( It makes a man wonder, what type of animal can take 3 shots from a 300 savage and keep going like that.
-
Here is the picture of the creekbed that we went next too. In the morning when this took place, a 100 feet was max visibility.
-
Sorry for the bad pic, the old growth is the creek bed that we serached for hours.

Thanks! Too bad I didnt have internet connection this morning, I would have had a lot of ground covered.
-
Dont give up...its been cool out. I gut shot (unfortunetly) a spring bear last year...he ran a 1/4 mile before I found him piled up. It was a VERY tough track. Good luck to all who are helping too! They can hide just about anywhere, so check all the stumps/logs you come to.
-
Yeah once the fog cleared and we started looking, every black spot was a "hey there it is, oh nevermind" We even took the flashlight and looked into the holes where rocks where stacked on each other along the creek bed. That is nerve racking to stick part of your body into a hole looking for a wounded bear.

Haha, you know you are alive when you are tracking a wounded bear through the brush.
-
yeah and quick way to empty the bladder
-
Good luck man, after hearing your story this morning I really hpoe you find him.
I tried to call you back about two hours after we spoke to see how thing were going - after your line hung up on me I thought maybe you didn't want a cell phone going off. Man, wish I' checked here sooner now!
-
yep keep after it hope you can find him!
-
Its alright redstar, my onstar minutes were getting low, and I was miles away from the truck. Couldnt find him to save my life, and I hope the moisture from last night didnt remove any of trail.
-
well bud. i didnt have anything going on yesterday. shoulda called me. i think you have my number. i woulda been there in an hour. good luck i hope you find him. dont be to down on yourself though. it happens to everyone. you just have to try your best. on another note. most bears go down hill when wounded.
-
I looked more uphil due to the sign, and that was the angle he ran before he started thrasing around. But then again on top of the hill the sign stopped, so he must have doubled back.
-
damn, good luck finding him man, if i wasnt 3 hours away id come up and help! hope you are able to track him down.
-
I hope that he is out in the open, and birds find him for me. I just hope he didnt run for miles on end.
-
yeah hard to think if you feel that you put 3 shots into him that he went very far. but unless they were good vital hits they are tuff sobs!
-
It happened so fast, and I cant say for sure if they were vital shots, but that last one I swera was a gut shot. the way he jumped up, and then went straingt into the bushes trashing around. I was sure he would stay there and bleed out. Man I wish I had played things out better yesterdsay.
