Title: Use of Themocell Insect Repellant
Post by: jimkrueg on August 07, 2010, 03:12:26 PM: I found me a nice mud whole for my treestand. There is a lot of mosquitoes. Has anyone ever used the Thermocell while sitting in a tree stand or can the elk smell that?

Post by: colockumelk on August 07, 2010, 03:30:01 PM: The Thermacell works AWSOME!!! I use it down here in Alabama. It is THE ONLY way you can hunt down here. That being said i know lots of guys who hunt deer and hogs with a bow and shoot alot of game while using the Thermacell, so I would say either they can't smell it or it doesn't bother them.

Never will I go without one there... Until you hit the arctic in the summer, you have never experienced bugs.... :yike: Head nets all day, all night, try eating, sleeping, walking with one on... Thermacell's do work....

A guy behind me had a thermocell and he was not getting bothered at all. I just wonder 1) do the elk notice it and 2) how well does it work if you are always walking around?

The one I carry while in the woods says it is not intended to be used while walking around. However if you move slow it works pretty nice. It gives about a 5 ft. diameter of protection.

You know, your hunting, so you just have to suck it up do that mind over matter stuff and just pretend there not biting you. :chuckle:

I was gonna get one until I read that you couldnt wear it. Said do not let come in contact with clothing. Wonder if that stuff will ruin clothes ? :dunno:

She stayed right there as there were no skeeters or black flies, so either she didn't care about the smell and loved the bug-free zone or she didn't smell it. Oh and she bolted when I moved after ten minutes of my leg falling asleep.

And if I can smell it, that means the animals should be able to smell it as well. That has me a little concerned.

Any comments on this are welcomed.

Naaaaah, you've apparently never hunted in Alabama wehre the no see ums will leave a bloody ring around the bottoms of your sleeve cuffs. There's tough and then there's unnecessary. :o

I've got two Thermocells and extra parts as my wife hunts too.
