Well I got my 3 new trail cams Friday and decided to go set them up yesterday. A little pre-season scouting for Elk. Brought the 300 Win/Mag and decided to do a little Bear hunting while I was out. Well I was about 2 miles into my trek on a game trail and heard some wrustling in the bushs to my left. So I stopped and listened for a but but did not hear it again. So I proceeded on my way and heard it again. So again I stopped and listened for awhile but again there wasn'nt a sound to be heard. At this point I didn't know what that hell was going on because I had just jumped a 5*5 buck about 200 yrds back and did know if it was just my imagination or not. Again I started on my way again and again I heard the noise. This time I had an opening to see more than 20 yards in and about 80yrds away is a dark chocolated black bear about 250lbs tearing into a rotted stump broadside. Up comes the gun and lock onto and but there is a three foot bush cover front shoulder and vitals. So I try to sneak around to get a better angle and step on a branch under pine needs. "Crack" it swings around pegs me and bolts. :bash: :bash: >:( :'(
Well I guess there is always next time right. Good news is that is my first attempted at hunting bear in Washington so overall not too bad. :)

I did the same thing on Saturday.. Well... I snapped a twig at least... I was so quiet for a long time. Really long time. Then I got careless. Didn't hear/see the bear that had been tearing up the stumps on that ridge, but there was so much fresh sign that he/she/they had to be there somewhere.

Hoping to get back out tomorrow after work. This time of year how far do they wonder? Still learning the Bear hunting ropes.
