Post by: micahash1 on August 09, 2010, 12:30:30 PM

Was down there all last week bear hunting and a little fishing during the day. I caught eight and only two were hatchery. Fishing on the bottom with spin-glow and prawns is how I was doing it. Best fishing was between noon and five.

Columbia dropped a degree today down to 70. If you are in the right spot you shold get a take down or too, but if you dont know where the fish are it will be frusterating.

Well, went down for a couple of hours this evening lost one and landed one hatchery.  Slow but they're out there.  We bobber fished with the bobber stop at 28' we used pink dyed prawns with shrimp oil.  Good luck and tight lines.

Jeez 28 feet? that seems deep for underwood, were you fishing off the bank under the bridge? or were you in a boat?

Off the bank under the bridge.  I have a bass boat but it is not real conducive to salmon or steelhead fishing and was fishing with my wife but we only have one pontoon.

my bowfishing boat is not really the best river boat for salmon or steelies. :chuckle:

Oh then I can see why you were fishing so deep. Was anyone else catching them?

Saw three other fish landed and two lost.  Of the fish I saw landed one was on a homemade spinner on the bottom, one on Spin N Glow and shrimp, and one bobber and prawn.  Both of the fish lost were on bobber and prawn as well.  I fished from about 7 to 8:30 PM.

Well Huntbear and I went down for a couple of hours today, pretty slow. We got a big fat 0.  Did see two natives hooked up in a boat, 1 hatchery fish in another, and one hatch of the bank.  Maybe better luck next time.

Was a great time.  Meeting another member off here.  Great conversation, but the dang fish would not cooperate.  Heck, one boat could have netted em as they jumped next to their boat, limited out and gone home.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

The bench was filled and then there were two on the other site of the bridge piling.  Huntbear and I were on the other side.

i spent a lot of hours on that bench and all the drama somtimes cracked me up :chuckle: i won't fish there again. we caught some nice fish but its boat or nothing now :chuckle: last guy that showed up down there when there was like 6 of us stood there a minute. looked down the bench walked past 3 people and shoved my tackel box which was on my side off the back into the rocks so he could sit down out of turn almost got a very very bad beating. then there are the guys that show up and want to throw spinner when everone is bait fishing and they drag everyone in on almost every cast :bash:

went down with my freind & his dad.
I lost 1 at the boat (only fish of the day).
My freind missed 3 bites (txt on his phone)
His dad caught 5 (1 wild 4 keepers) He helped his sons fill his tag for the day.  ;) we fished from 11:30am-4:30pm
They also fished at night (the night befor) and each caught 1. (1 wild 1 keeper)
I should be down there again tomorrow.

Just curious what lb leader everyone is using there. Had a guy tell me to use a 4 lb leader and 8-10 main lilne, it made all the difference for me. This guy was one of the regulars in the float tubes and he would flat slaughter them. I was in a boat, not sure how the light leader would work off the bank. He also used a tiny hook not sure the size.

It is still pretty slow at the Big White, and Drano.   I saw about 25 squaw fish caught last night at Drano.  It was hillarious, watching these guys swear they had steelhead on, reel in a 12-14 in. squaw.   :chuckle: :chuckle:

If you are doing the bait thing, go light.  At most 6lb test and at most a #4 hook.

Anybody been down there this past week? I went last sunday and caught a baby steelie like a 3 pounder, my buddy got his limit. I was just wondering if the fishing went to hell with the temp going back down.

went down last thursday night  i know im a little slow getting it on here but me and my uncle hit 10 fish pulling the flat fish.  Fished 830 to 330 and there was a couple boats doing better than us.  Now the kings are moving in time for the vortex.
