Just wondering if anyone has a recent report from the sockeye fishery. I'll be in the neighborhood this weekend and am wondering if I should take the boat. I see it won't close til the 31st, but dunno if there are any fish left in the lake and/or what condition they are in. Thanks in advance.

Lake Wenatchee sockeye
fishery closes Aug. 31
Action: Lake Wenatchee closes for sockeye salmon fishing.
Effective date/time: One hour after sunset Aug. 31, 2010.
Species affected: Sockeye salmon.
Location: Lake Wenatchee (Chelan Co.).
Reason for action: By Aug. 31, most of the sockeye currently in the lake will have migrated to the White and Little Wenatchee rivers and will be unavailable to anglers. Continuing the fishery would also increase bull trout impacts.
Other information: Trout and other game fish seasons will continue as described in the 2010/2011 "Fishing in Washington" rules pamphlet.
Information contact: Art Viola, (509) 665-3337, Jeff Korth (509) 754-6066.

we went up this am, got there at 430ish and the wind was howling so we decided to not go out. we have been on that lake in the past when the wind was up and its no fun. dad and gpa went out last friday, i was hunting, they limited with 4. the fish were still in pretty good shape, one was just starting to change over, the meat was firm and after we smoked them they tasted great. dad said there was maybe 50 boats out there last week and when we showed up this am there were four other boats, all waiting to see if the wind would calm down. i went two weeks ago with dad and gpa but the bite wasnt on yet, judging from what dad said it sounded like the bite started to kick in last week.
if we didnt already make plans to head to the sound to do some crabbing with friends we would try it tomorrow, id say go for it the bites on theres plenty of fish and little pressure

Thanks all, encouraging enough that I'll take the boat and give it a go. The wind seems to howl about half the time there, but maybe I'll get lucky tomorrow night and/or Sunday am.

Any luck? We have a camp trip planned there this weekend with some friends and I'm highly thinking of dragging the boat over as well.

Never fished. I stopped by the lake Saturday evening and Sunday morning and the wind was howling both times. Bad timing on my part with the weather front moving through - probably just fine there today.

Thanks for the info...weather isn't looking great for this weekend either. I saw tstorms in the forecast potentially...

Fished the lake last Friday in the afternoon. Kinda windy. Fishing was slow but we did catch two and lost two. BBQ'd them fresh that nite and it was a big hit. All the boats in the morning limited per the fish checker. Marked lots of fish in the northwest end. Good luck!

Thanks for the info. Unfortunately we aren't heading there now since the park is closed for the weekend cause trees are falling. Glad you were able to get some fish in the boat!

Thats too bad as there are several other places to camp in the area. Quite a few people over there fishing. Saw many boats on my way out of Glacier Peak Wilderness.
