You get home from work at 5pm on Sept 7th. shower, grab stuff, out the door at 5:30pm. To the spot you need to start hiking at 6:15pm. Hike for an hour to a spot and get there at 7:15pm. Now you have less than an hour to shoot. Do you even bother making the trip, just to get out in the woods or not even bother knowing you still have to go to work the next day?

if i knew the spot well and felt in that 1 hour it would produce i would go in a heart beat. if i felt at all like i would be hard pressed to see anything i would not waste the time and gas money to go for 1 hr on a iffy spot. but thats me. like the old saying goes if you are not out hunting you can't kill them :dunno:

I've never been there. May go check it out this week. It's west of Tumwater. Anyone know anything about it? Gohunt says it's mostly state land. I see some clear cuts and elevation. Any ideas?

i do not know the area, i would want to get up there one day when i had more of a chance to learn it.

To me, it does not sound like you have enought time to learn a new area, and take care of an animal in unknown territory, and still make work tomorrow.
If you previewed the area first, I would feel more comfortable about it.

I say you got to know about the spot by scouting it out before hand :twocents: is there time to get situated, enough time to shoot AND process the animal and hike out. How much sick leave do I have on the books, any comp time or vacation time to use. will my freshly showered body be a give away or is my plan...gear, and self ready to roll on a moments notice? After scouting it out if there are possibilities...hell yes. If there are limited possibilities...maybe not. But sometimes when you least expect it Boom you got processing to do. Good luck

I am hoping to get out there this week a few times. It's close enough I can get there multiple nights. If there was an animal down, I would not go to work the next day. If not though, I wouldn't get home until 10pm or so.
I don't even know if the area holds elk or not though. I'd hate to waste a lot of time scouting an area that didn't have any elk in it to begin with. Anyone have any idea if they're there? It's the state land that borders GMU's 651 and 663 near Summit Lake.

Take everything with you, skip shower, change at work go straight there. Scout after work this week.

Whats the point of scouting it then?
No offense, just saying....

I don't know. Just looking for a place within a half hour os Shelton that holds elk. This place looks elk friendly, just thought I'd ponder the idea of finding them in there.

A good hunt starts with a good plan. I would come up with a better plan.
I have a good/better plan for the weekends when I can dedicate some time to the hunt. I was just looking to kill some time and maybe get lucky during the week. I'll just concentrate on the weekends then.

You would be better off knocking on doors or hunting the state land in 651. Closer. More animals.

hunt first and worry about everything else latter. Work would be the last thing on my mind. the golden hour is always worth the hunt
-
If I had to work at 7am I wouldn't do it! Weekend, yes

go for the golden hour , skip lunch wash at work maybe you can get two hours in the field . or maybe you 'll hear elk and have a better approach for the following night.
