Title: Opinions on Mangnus?? Help!
Post by: smartazz171 on August 24, 2010, 08:13:27 AM
Ok, so I'm changing broadheads this year.  I've chosen to go with a Magnus Stinger or Mangus Buzzcut.  I'm only hunting Elk.  What are the pro's and cons with the serrated Vs. non serrated blades and should I get the broadheads with the "bleeders" that are offered in either style?  Looking for your  :twocents: on the subject, stories, advice, etc, before I go buy them.  Please don't try and convince me to try (insert broadhead name here) instead.  I'm happy with my decision just wanted some fellow hunters opinions.

Thanks, Mike

I think there's a bit of merit in using straight blades over serrated.  The line of thought is that the serrated blade will do more physical damage initially, but the body will recognize it as major damage and divert all of the available resources to healing it ASAP; contrast that with a smooth cut of a straight blade that the body sees as a minor incident and doesn't work hard to clot and heal but ends up dying because of the mistaken identity of the severity of the wound.  I've used the Stingers with good results on bear, elk and deer.

As for the 4 blade vs. 2 blade debate.... I've seen the tiny little cuts made by the bleeder blades, and there's no way it'll close up before the animal dies.  I'd be surprised to see a 2 blade shot on a bear that didn't close up after about 100 yards; I know there will be plenty of stories to the contrary, though.  The 4 blade wound just takes that many more little pieces of fat and hair to clog it before it quits bleeding.

I have shot the four blade stingers and buzzcuts.  You can't go wrong.

I've got 4 blade stingers and buzzcuts and even my beat up ones still fly perfect. The owner of magnus hunts with the buzzcuts he says they leave a little better blood trail than the stingers but I don't know how much truth there is to that. I do like them both but you can put a stinger on a lansky or gatco sharpener and get them CRAZY sharp. I put a 2" cut on my stomach with one (just grazed myself) and didnt notice it for like a half hour. I'm hoping to put one through an elk and the other through a deer before the season is over. In my opinion you can't go wrong with magnus!

Magnus 2 blades are awesome! killed lots of elk with them, with major blood trails, never had problems tracking game.

I use the Magnus Buzzcut 125gr.  I have taken Deer, Elk, and bear with the broadhead, and it is amazing.  They also fly with the same point of impact as my 125gr field points.  I also like the G5 Striker.  But, for elk, the Mangnus is my choice.

I switched to the Magnus Stinger 4 blade 3 yrs ago and love them. Ive taken 3 deer and 1 Elk with them. All left awesome blood trail ( Spined one so dropped in tracks) They shot exactly the same as my field tips.  :archery_smiley: Although bleeders are small i like the little extra cutting surface. You wont be disappointed in your choice. :rockin:

If I'd have had the 4 blade, I'd have lost this bull, I am SURE OF IT.   He reposistioned as I fired and I caught a shoulder.   Can be a bowhunters nightmare, but the fact I was shooting at 80+pounds with no let off and that two blade, I split the shoulder and got a lung.

Nice one Bone.  I just switched from Muzzy-3's to the Stinger 4-blades.  Since the 2 bleeder blades are pretty small, I think the Stinger 2 blade may have been a better choice.  We'll see how it pans out this elk season; at least I hope I'll get a shot off, lol.

i like 2 blades with bleeders like the magnus buzz cuts. i do not like the full size 4 blade's, like some of the muzzys and others.

another two blade success story.  Basically a pass through.  It went through and hung  in the fletchings ont he reverse side.  he came right at me and I thought I was a gonner.  He turned just short of me, not becasue of me but thats when he ran out of leg.  he faltered, I heard the air whistling out the hole, and then he faltered, turned down hill picked up speed and collapsed. in the bottom of the dip.   Now that is adrenaline folks.   A moose hide is tough stuff alone.

Look like a lot of good evidence to go with a 2 blade. When I hunted archery I used a 3 blade 125gr muzzy. Bone, Is that a shiras moose?

" Bone, Is that a shiras moose? "

If it is That's HUGE!!   8)

I've killed ELK with the 4 bld 125 gr Stinger- very tough head and they fly true with a tuned set up.

I use The Mangus stinger with the bleeders. It flies so close to field tips no need to change anything. I found them when visiting New Mexico and ran into a guide there, that said on his website he has a list of broadheads that his clients must choose from to hunt with him. He is sick of seeing wounded animals. I think he has 10 or so listed. Wish I could afford to hunt with him, hella nice guy and knows his sh---.
