Title: Scope for a smoothbore....
Post by: rh4usmc on August 28, 2010, 01:47:03 PM
hey can anyone tell me if its a good idea to mount a scope on a Remington 870 with a 26" smoothbore barrel?

Why not?  Are you going to use it for rifled slugs?  A scope is a pain for ducks or pheasant.....   :chuckle:

It will improve your slug accuracy because you can pick out a more detailed spot.  Still not as good as a barrel mounted scope because the barrel and action are not locked together.  At most slug ranges, the bead sight has worked fine for me, even better if you have the mid-barrel bead to help line it up.

Nikon Prostaff  2X7    enough power to count points, low enough power for close brush hunting, and it's inexpensive.
