I am entering a photo contest but I can't decide which photo to submit. I was thinking about adding one of my trout pics as I thought they are different enough. Mom thinks I should enter the peacock screaming. The mrs doesn't have any input. I was thinking about a close up of a ram too. Anybody have any ideas of stuff you've seen of mine that just struck you.
-
I was thinking about entering one similiar to this.

-
I was thinking about the female wooduck one with the bullfrog tadpole in its mouth too. It would be more shocking if it was a male, but the pic is pretty sharp.
-
Let's see what you got.
-
The bear was a thought.....

I thought about the sharpshinned pic.....I was thinking about shying away from wildlife though as many of the guys can and do shoot zoo crap.
-
That being said, I thought this was so once in a million

that duck one is pretty good. I really liked some of your previous trout pics...especially where you could see the trout coming up behind the fly like a shark. You have such a talent, it would be tough to pic just one.
-
Thanks SAYLEAN. I had thought about changing this one a bit ( a different pic) getting the look so you had eyes, bone and snow and him staring at you like he was going to kick some arse......

-
I like the sheep. :twocents:
-
Bone, without giving too much away, what's the criteria for the contest? That would affect my suggestion.
-
Its as vague as the day is long. Pretty much anything goes.

If only it was a drake... dont get me wrong its an amazing picture though.
-
Bone, I always like the pics you put up but I do think the fish pics that you posted recently....coming up to take the fly or the one in this thread are very unique. I have seen lots of pics of Rams, Bears and goats and stuff like that but those fish pics are some of the best I have ever seen. Good luck bone
BREW
-
I appreciate the input guys. Keep it coming. Those are the things that are going through my mind
-
Go with the duck.
-
We can only pick one picture Bone? going to be tough. I like the duck picture, and as much as I hate snakes you have taken some great pictures of those as of late too.
-
:yeah: You have a tough decision bone.............that's what happens when you take sooooooooooo many great pictures Serves you right. :chuckle: I'm not a photo guru by anymeans so my opinion shouldn't mean squat but clarity and crispness means everything to me. That should narrow it to only about 304,899 pictures. :chuckle:
BREW
-
hard pics :chuckle: i would say the woody- very cool pic. 2nd is the fish for me.
-
Trout, duck or goat, any of them. they are all great photos
-
The duck....I am biased I love your bird pics the best.....you seem to capture birds so well......
-
I would say the wood duck with tadpole, the trout is a close second.
-
The sheep pic is awsome
-
They are all worth putting into a contest, and in my book allready won!! But if I have to choose one its the Duck, it's just unreal! Duck for me! I remember some pics of yours of a landing Duck that was pretty awesome and struck me as way cool!
-
Sounds good guys and thanks for the compliments and input. The duck it is (I think :chuckle: )
-
I like them all, but that bear picture is SHARP! All great pictures bone!
-
I would use them all on my Desktop screen saver ANY DAY. I don't see alot of the fish pics anywhere else and I REALLY like this coming out of the water shot. Think about it! That was lil bone as your assistant. I have also never see a wood duck or any duck for that matter eating a tadpole.
HUM!!!! What to do.
MY vote is for the Fish shot.
-
Bone I asked my family. They said fish first then duck.
-
my personal preference would be the duck or the fish shot, not to pick apart your work as they are all great shots but i think that the mountain goat shot would not be ideal, the sun kind of washes out the white hide and some sharpness is lost, just my thoughts and as always great work Bone and best of luck in the comp.
-
My vote is the duck photo. You're an awesome photography bone; and from the looks of your hunting photos, a damn good hunter too! Need another hunting partner, lol?
-
I vote for the duck. I really love the reflection on the water. That's awesome!!
-
Out of the ones you have posted I like the
Duck #1
bear #2
trout #3
goat #4
Ram #5
Just the way I like them. They are all great. :dunno:
-
The duck great exposure, good focus and crispness (especially the water) but had added motion with the blurring of the wing tips. This is hard to achieve and a really nice touch. I like this picture the best.
The bear picture is my second pic because of the great composition, third-lines, DOF, subject angle and pose - outstanding composition. The only reason this wasn't my 1st pic is due to a little bright exposure. A small lightroom or photoshop tweak could change this.
All around beautiful pics. Good luck.
(If I can log on somewhere and lend you my vote let me know!)
-
Bone your pictures are amazing as always. i have to go with the ram one myself then probably the bear one. There all great pictures for sure.
-
white goat and duck are really beautiful :twocents:
-
I am going to throw in a 1st place vote for the trout. Duck is second.
Any of them could win, of course it all depends on the judge(s)...
i.e. does the judge hunt? Does the judge fish? Has the judge ever hiked to the elevation necessary to photograph a goat? Is the judge creeped out by the tiny one-legged tadpole in it's death throes... :chuckle:
-
when is the contest? would love to hear how you do when its over and what pic you choose :IBCOOL:
-
I like the duck the best, then bear, trout, goat, and the ram last (depth of field, focus)
-
i like the duck and the ram. i like several of your snake pictures as well. you are an excellent photographer! good luck and let us know how it turns out and which photo you enter!
-
Duck is in. Now I wait.......
-
Of what you presented, I'm glad you also chose the duck.
That said, you have a 'few' Nany's and kids that I remember that are also exquisite shots that I'm surprised that you didn't include as finalists. I remember the kids that nearly had, 'Expression' in the photo.

Thanks Steve.
-
Great Pictures.
-
I agree with NWBREW, in general. I think what often sets winners apart is the emotion or eye to eye connection with the animal. That young bear photo is pretty neat in that respect. I love the contrast of the goat against the rock backdrop. I think of this lot, that one gets my recommendation.
I really love great action shots too. The trout or wood duck (or similar) could do really well. I know you're a highly skilled photographer, Bone, so don't take this as a criticism of your skills, but the trout and wood duck photos aren't as sharp as they could be which, in a photo contest, will matter to judges. Having said that the wood duck reflection is phenomenal and may well overcome any issues with razor sharp focus. :twocents: GOOD LUCK!!
-
So Doug when do you find out if you have what it takes? ;)
-
Yeah, where's this contest? Can we um.. Influence the judges with our votes?
Are any of us credible enough? :chuckle: :bash: :chuckle:

That is just what I'm talking about bone.I have seen a lot of your pics on here and I know I haven't seen 10% of the pics you take.
I have seen so many of your phonomenal pics of wildlife as well as some of the country (but don't let this go to your head, if they start looking like crap I'm gonna say something. :chuckle: ). How do you pick which ones to consider? How? I would like to read a thread of your all time favorites, which ones are YOUR favorites and why. I'm not trying to blow smoke up your butt OR ki$$ your ass. I just would like to know.
-
I am guessing that Bone will respond with the descriptions of his photo adventures not much unlike our hunting/hiking adventures. -As, he is a hunter just like the rest of us. He just happens to have grown up in the jackpot of environments and gets to tell it without so many words yet in more vivid detail. But I too, would like to hear why some photos are your favorites. Capturing the photo, well, you've got that down to an art. (with a little science mixed in) But I'm sure there are some like, 'the take' with your little girl fly fishing, or others that were the climb of a lifetime, or the absolute surprise. I am certain that you have some secret locations to 'shoot' that are not easy to get to. Still, I'd hate to see the odometer on your truck since you bought it. I have yet to find a high mountain honey hole. You have several, and keep teasing us with great photos of animals.
Please keep teasing. But a story behind one or two would be cool also.
-Steve
-
most of my favorite pictures wouldn't win any photo contest. Most would capture an animal or have some story behind it. I'll have to gander at some and put the thougths behind them.
-
How can a person make a decision with all those great pics. I do like the duck one but then the fish one is also a nice shot. I can't decide decisions decisions decisions!!
-
well Bone when do you find out if you placed :dunno:

December..........long ass wait.
-
Just so you know some of us are waiting along with you.
-
THANKS! I'll keep ya posted as soon as I know something.
-
I like the elk playing like a moose. Wasn't there one where you got a duck or heron in the photo too.

Or did lil bone get that shot?
-
Good memory. Lil Bone nailed that one.

Yea I love that picture!!
-
Is it December yet?
-
It is.
-
Good luck Bone. I like all of your pics. Personally, the focus and crispness are second to the difficulty in getting the shot, like the buck that wanted to gore you, or some of the close up snake shots. Anyone can learn to focus, but it takes talent and tons of hours in the field to stalk in close like you do.
-
Thanks 7 mag. It would be unreal to win this contest.
-
Let us know if we can vote.
-
As hard as it is to pick from just your list.....I can't imagine having a whole group of guys that all take pics like that and having to sort thru them to find a winner.
-
Well I didn't win. As soon as I see the winning images, I'l see if I can post them.
-
The trout one is a great shot. Those have to be a challenge to get a good picture of.
-
WOW there must have been some out of this word photos for you not to win ;)
-
Thanks 400. I'm sure there were.
-
i just voted for your fish photo on Facebook. Good luck
