LET'S SEE WHAT PICTURES YOU GOT OF ELK IN YELM/ROY OR RAINIER.... I know there are some nice BULLS out in these areas cause I have seen them. Especially off Vail Road ( Yelm Side ) at a Friends House and in Rainier on Wearhauser property!!
-
I think there was a big bull in the garden dept working its way towards the pet food at Walmart
-
its a zoo over there. WAY to many people hunt there.
-
Here are a Some from the past few years, I dont have any from this year yet!
-
I scored a 300" bull from this area a couple years ago...huge and chunky, just how I like them.
-
Hunted that area all week (except saturday)....NOTHING!!!....I'm not even worried about a bull, I just meat in the freezer....where's the COWS!!??
-
There just aren't all that many elk in the area. If you can find the cows this time of the year you'll find the bulls. That's why there are some nice bulls. Pretty thick and swampy in general, and few elk.

Hey bow4elk, are you talking about elk or women?

Is that the field over by 304? If it is i leave maybe a mile from there. I see them there all the time and every now and then they will be in the trees next door. Alot of times you can hear them bugle at night.
-
YELM and RAINIER are in Thurston County down By Olympia (20 miles away) And ROY is in Pierce County (20 miles) from Olympia. NOT up there Part of it is in Area 666 and 667
-
There are no elk here in Rainier, that cougar has chased them all away. Nothing to see here, move on. Actually the big 5x5 that was hanging around near my place mysteriously disappeared a couple of weeks ago. We stopped seeing him right after my wife heard rifle shots at 11:30 pm across the street bordering Weyco land and a certain ranch named after a car brand. Unfortunately there is a lot of poaching in this area and the herds are getting thin and very spooky.
-
Was gonna say...I've seen that 5x5 on the pipeline just out of Rainier a few weeks ago.......wierd thing I haven't seen very much sign this past week.
Yelm hunter....From Roy you can be in Rainier in less than 20 minutes...it's not that far....all of rainier is in 666 isn't it?? gotta get on the other side of the skook for 667????
-
507 is the dividing line for 667-666. Everything North of 507 is 666, South is 667. It pays to read the regs because I know of a couple of guys who were busted for taking spikes near Vail. (3 pt+)
-
I don't remember what 667 is (3pt min or antlerless??), but 666 is any elk. Puyallup (652??) is any elk... At this point, not wanting to drive far, I'm just looking to take a cow, want some elk steaks!!....better eating anyway.
-
That first 6x6is a bad ass looking bull! To bad they always get poached before season around here :bash:
-
667 is 3pt+ or antlerless, 666 is any elk but very little public land.
-
The regulations PolarBear posted are for archery.
667 3 pt. minimum and 666 any elk for rifle.
-
-You can shoot cows in the chuck, well you always could before anyway archery or smokepole early season, 3pt min only late season smokpole but still 3pt min or antlerless for archery late season, unless things changed thats how its been for the last few years.
-
Taken this morning he was bugling all night.
-
Dandy!
-
He is a very nice bull.
-
There is no elk between Eatonville and Rainier. The wolves got them all. These pictures are obviously fakes. :spank_butt:
-
What are you doing in my pasture?
-
Here he is again.
-
SNOOKMONSTER...
Were was this picture taken and when?
-
Yelm hunter. It was taken saturday 9-25-10 6:45 am. On morris.
-
Hey Snookmonster... Is this the same Bull thats been making all that racket off 123rd and Morris? I seen one out there today with a spike and 3 cows. But doesn't look like the same bull. Unfortunly I didn't have my camera with me cause I'm a Taxi Driver.
-
I'm pretty sure that I have seen him over off of Hannus rd.
-
This pic. was taken back in June sorry about the quality.
-
Here are a few from this morning.
-
This summer i saw seven bulls in one of the fields out there ,to bad it is all private
-
Talked with the local WDFW officer today and he said that one of the 5 points in that Morris Rd. herd was taken last weekend.
-
Hopefully it wasn't poached and it was either taken during Archery or Muzzleloader!! D
Did he say which season? And by chance were at on Morris Road?
I'm a taxi driver and just had a 6 x 6 , a spike and 6 cows and a calf cross Morris RD this morning!! There moving for cover getting ready for this rain storm thats coming in...
-
Anybody know where I can have a chance at one? I still have a muzzy tag good till dark. Willing to share.
-
That bull was legally taken with a muzzy on private land. The WDFW is watching a bunch of elk around here because of increased poaching. To my surprise, they know every bull in the area. Wer'e working on finding the poachers who shot the calf in my neighbor's pasture a couple of weeks ago. Getting close!
-
I know how it is. I found the carcase of a big bull last year shot during Archery season out off Bald Hill Rd. Head gone. Cut off with a saw. They didn't take a scrap of meat. I'm a meat hunter. It made me sick.
-
I just can NOT believe people... They think that poaching is a good thing... But it's NOT it just ruins it for all of us legal hunters that hunt during Archery, Muzzy and Modern seasons...
What is up with some people? They see elk and they think oh its FREE... It's NOT!! Were was this Calf shot in your neighbors pasture a couple weeks ago? Any description on what kind of car or truck it was? I'm a Taxi Driver and drive around alot and see alot of different things happening!!
-
the 6pt was taken on private land indeed.but not to sure of the legalitly(check game regs,. bout chasin game with rigs) there has been several bulls killed in that area.. some dandy's to .
-
YelmHunter. No rig, they had to have hike either through landlocked state land (no edivdence of that) or through his nieghbor's back pasture. We have a good idea who it was and the process has begun to verify.
-
Keep us informed. Poachers = ZERO TOLERANCE :bash:
-
The word poachers gets thrown around on the website like I can't believe. They may be talking about trespassing but if it was shot in a legal unit with a legal weapon then trespassing and poor judgement is all that is.
-
This calf was shot at 11:30 at night, with a rifle, during early archery with a rifle on private land. No need to second guess this one. My wife was sitting at the computer and heard the whole thing go down. There is NO excuse for "poor judgement"!!!
-
That was never stated in this thread that I know of. That is down right stupid and uncalled for.
I thought you guys were talking about the bull. Kinda hard to follow along with the 2.
-
Oops, my bad. I have another thread on my situation and I carried it onto this one. D-oh!
-

I have to sadly say I witnessed what I believe this gentleman is talking about. In was in the yelm/rainier area. I did see a vehicle running up and down the road trying to keep a herd of Elk from crossing a road and each time that it was successful in turning the herd and keeping it on the land (which I presume they had permission to hunt) another two hunters (one on each side of the field) would move in closing the gap and getting within shooting range. This finally paid off for them at the third go around of running these animals up and down the field. Yes it was shot on legal land and I do think they had permission to hunt there. I just don't think using the vehicle in this manner is consider fair chase. The herd was split up at one time and the majority had escaped onto another property where I bet they did not have permission to hunt!!! (as no one was following these animals over the fences!!) Maybe next time the dude in the truck should just postion himself on foot at the point you think they will cross and if it your planning is good you will have succeeded the same result and not have to run the animals till there tongues are hanging out!! and darn look at the fuel you would have saved!!!! just my two cents.
-
I know of one which was shot by a muzzie in the yelm roy area..A guy and his son apparently missed the bigger one first day and the son got the smaller 5x on the last day. This guy who is their neighbor told me, has a horse property out there, not sure where only know him from work. U local guys might know him, he lost his thumb wrangling a horse last year.
-
Here is a shot from this morning, sorry about the quality but it was still pretty dark at 6:45. Looks like this guy came out the loser, he had no cows and his right antler was broken off just above the eyeguard.
-
WOW... Is that that big 6x6 that got in a fight? He must have fought hard!! Unless someone shot at him and hit his antler? Maybe someone will end up getting a bull with a extra free antler... Hmmmm?
-
I'm glad to see some of those pics. I've spotted a couple of elk out along Bald Hills Rd in the 2 years we've been out here, but nothing that nice. Typically it's dark when I leave the house and dark when I get home, so I don't see much unless it's in the road in front of me. I didn't figure that there were enough of them out here to put in a serious effort to hunt them since I hunt modern firearm.

kenbell27 that is a nice pic..i did see a bull earlier in the season with one antler(thought it was damaged in velvet?) i believe the big 6pt your refering to yelm hunter is the one that was shot on the second day of muzzie..(see post from swelledneck) i went for drive in that area sat,. to see what was still around..seen two herds both had bulls..also heard shots from high powered rifles(getting an early start?)i dont imagine they were sighting in rifles at 7:20pm has anybody seen the big bull that is a 5x1..i lost track of him or did he get taken?
-
Saw that herd off of Hannus Rd on Sunday. Somewhere around 34-36 head with 2 ranched bulls. Also saw a single 6x6 a little farther down Vail. Good to see that a bunch survived the seasons.
