i saw 5 deer to day 2 spikes , 1 3x4 and 2 2x2s. why do spikes wait so long to rub?
-
Spikes don't have as much testostorone in their system.
-
I agree...seems like the spikes are always last to shed the fuzz.

I saw the opposite on deer yesterday. 21 bucks and the small bucks were clean while the big bucks still had full velvet. I'm sure it's only a few days now.......

i know the spike elk are the last to use their horns too. i guess they just don't have as much testosterone?
-
I saw spikes last year that still had velvet towards the end of September. I'm thinking definitely a lack of testosterone.
-
i saw a spike today and his velvit was off but saw a 2x3 that was still full velvit :dunno:
-
Genreally bigger ones first, just like elk. Its not an exact science.

I saw 3 bucks yesterday (whiteys) in town. The smallest, a forky still had velvet. The middle deer 110-120" had no velvet and the boss 130+ was still covered.
