So Tuesday I got my new Escort 12 guage shotgun in King Desert Camo that matches my Howa Axiom! I think it looks sweet and I love the camo pattern too. It was a fairly inexpensive shotgun at only $500 brand new but I only got it for coyote hunting and I wanted the Escort since they have it in the camo that matches my Axiom. I've never had a semi-auto shotgun before so I'm really pumped to shoot it - I think I'm gonna hunt my little Granite Falls honey hole this Sunday so hopefully I'll get to test it out then. They wont let me shoot anything bigger than #7 shot at the Kenmore gun range and I'm planning on using 4 buck or bigger for the coyotes so I'll just have to do the testing in 'real time'. It also came with 3 chokes, full, improved cylinder, and modified. I was looking at getting one of the long range PatternMaster choke tubes but predatorpro says the full choke will work fine for yotes. Plus the PM long range choke says it for ranges over 40yds up to 80yds and I plan on using this for dogs inside 40yds. I know basically nothing about shotguns - can I use the full choke with larger the buckshots like 00, 000, & 4 buck? Probably not with a slug huh? :dunno: I also bought another one for sale at $350 that is in Mossy Oak Break Up with a 24" Turkey Barrel & Choke and a 28" barrel & chokes like this one has but I wont get it for another couple of weeks.

Uh, thank you, thank ya very much! ;)

You might try patterning the new shotgun with the improved cylinder and modified tubes with that #4 buck. The full choke might be too tight and give a worse pattern than a more open choke tube. But you won't know until you test all of them. Get some large sheets of paper and shoot at 40 yards.

Looks good but $500 is an inexpensive shotgun?

Thanks for the help. So just go out & shoot it at the paper - that's what you mean by patterning?

Compared to some of the others I looked at I thought it was!

I have an escort Magnum that I use for ducks and geese, okay 1 coyote.
I have not found any brand choke with the same threads. I have looked for 3 yrs and nothing will fit.
If you find something, I would be interested.

Yes. Here's an article on patterning coyote loads that I googled up: http://easterncoyotes.com/home/41?task=view (http://easterncoyotes.com/home/41?task=view)
There's a lot more info to be found if you google "shotgun patterning coyote" or just "shotgun patterning"

For a quick n' dirty trial run I would put the modified in for Sunday and pattern it when you get the chance.

Thanks Bobcat - I'll check it out!

Hey Cliff - how's it going? The PatternMaster website says the Escort is interchangable with the Beretta/Benelli Mobil choke tubes. Dont know if that is true but you can check it out at http://patternmaster.com/choke-tube-interchange-table/ (http://patternmaster.com/choke-tube-interchange-table/)

Took the Escort out with FC today and dropped another female :IBCOOL: And we had some fun with a rat.... I'll post pics of the dog in the day or two. It was cool - 1st shot ever with the shotgun and it was to take out a coyote, 2nd shot ever finished off a rat FC speared Rambo style with sharpened stick! :chuckle:

:chuckle: boy i bet that was pretty :chuckle:

It was a fun trip, thanks again but I'm glad I didn't pose for any pics with my rat-kabob...LOL

For the PatternMaster?? Holy crap that is an awesome price - they were like $84 on Amazon and the PM website!
