Any of you planning on hunting archery elk in the 340 GMU won't have as much competition this year. I spent Saturday and Sunday up there and didn't see half the camps I usually see. Must be the opening of 346 that is causing this. The wind was blowing and I didn't hear any bugles. Didn't see a single elk either. Elk are there, I saw tracks and droppings. I am not archery hunting this year, wish we could rifle hunt and bow hunt, just a fact of life we got to pick one or the other.
All through the night there was some low bass sound coming from the north of Tamarack Springs, like someone was playing a boom box and all we could hear was the bass. The wind didn't cover the sound and it was a constant rhythm over and over. Weird. I wondered if it was some new radio or electric transformer installed on a mountaintop, but my wife thought someone in a camp over the way just let their stereo play all night long. It was quite annoying.

Were you the fella with the horses. I am the guy with the long chin hairs and the 2 boys who were acting like "boys." Enjoyed the visit. I drove back down and went into N. Fork Manashtash and saw only 1 camp. I was thinking there may be more by Monday. Who knows, maybe everyone is going to 346. Hope so. I will wait for the elk to get chased to me. :IBCOOL:

I guess that's sort of a good thing that there weren't a bunch of camps set up yet.....will be headed towards that general area tomorrow.....

No, I didn't have horses, though I saw the horses you are referring to and I wished I owned them. Looked well bred and taken care of.
