Well i had an eventful day. I moved my stuff on friday to Eastern Oregon and got the truck unloaded at about 11pm. It was my dad, Gfriend, and me and we were like ah hell lets drive to the Margaret and hunt elk at daylight! So back in the truck we were and arrived at about 5:30am with very little sleep. We drove around a bit and right at daylight I spotted some elk in a draw about to go over a ridge. Jenna and I ran and cut them off. The both of us crept up to where we thought they would be and a bull bugles out of the brush right below us. Of course out pops a nice 5pt bull and walks 30 yards from us. Dammm cow tags anyways!!! So the cows start chirping and moving around and one winds us! Down the hill they all go but they didnt go very far, probably 100 yards or so and then back to feeding. Jenna stayed put and I got above them with the wind perfect and let the bull push the cows right to me. I had elk absolutely everywhere around me but could not get a clear shot for nothing. So the elk bust me again and all head into a thicket right below me. I snuck in on them thru the tag alders and they all stood on a ridge looking my direction. I hear them start to get excited so I cow called and the whole herd ran right to me! They are walking past at about 30 yards. I had one good shooting lane and had 4 elk go right thru it and then I saw this one coming! Went to full draw and let him get just perfect and gave him a chirp. He stopped and my arrow smacked him right infront of the shoulder. He was quartering to me and my intentions were to have my arrow pass in front of the first shoulder and exit behind the far shoulder......well my arrow deflected off his shoulder and went straight up into his neck severing his main artery and windpipe! The elk bolted on impact immediately cut away from the herd. Ran down a ridge and died 100 yards above the road. Jenna and my dad got to watch the whole thing from the road. Great day and My first archery kill!!! Its only a bull calf but that is fine with me. Great eating and not too often can you get an elk out whole!!!! Good luck the rest of the season everyone!!! Thanks for reading!!
-
great write up!! :cue:
-
OUT FRICKEN STANDING!!! Way to go, sounded very exciting :party1:
-
Congrats on the first archery kill, that should be a tender one.
-
Sounds like you had a fun time bet your elk will be good eating.
-
Nice elk :IBCOOL: Easy out and some great eating  Congrats
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Good job Justin, congratulations
-
Well done! Should be some good eats...
-
What a fun (although short) hunt! Good job!
I think in a healthy population, with an antlerless tag, a young of the year would be my primary target. :EAT:
-
Great work. I can feel rush. :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
-
man i love how people dont read the reg book on what antlerless means...and killing a tiny bull illegally.....good job
-
What is bowman talking about? Antlerless tag, in the Margaret. What is illegal?
-
see those antlers on its head....he shot a bull with an antlerless tag...and bull calves are illegal to shoot anyhow
-
any visible antler above the hairline means it has antlers right??? so that means its illegal to shoot and put a antlerless tag on am i right or wrong??
-
Straight from the regs....
"cow and calf elk and moose are considered antlerless"
-
Bowman419 maybe you should read up on the rules before you post. why try to make this kid feel bad for harvesting his first archery elk? Even if it was illeagel is it your job to beat this kid up over it? :twocents:
-
page 41 at the bottom
Visible Antler:
A horn-like growth projecting above the hairline.
-
its cool i already reported him to fish and game. i dont care if it is his first kill its not legal. its a bull that has anlers there not big but there considered antlers. which makes is illegal. therefore i am gonna complain because of people that dont know the rules and go shoot anything they want
-
and olsy i dont see where in that line that it says CALF BULL
-
It is people like you that really piss me off. Did you have the balls to talk to the hunter and get the story of do you just want to be a prick? if you can report it the have the balls to talk to the hunter first.
-
I may be blind 8) what antlers :dunno: I have resized this pic and I can't see antler one..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Bowman......YOU are the one that better read the rules. Nice LEGAL calf. I don't see any horns....probably has those little balls on his head that are not through the hide and it says NOWHERE in the regs you can't shoot a Bull calf with and antlerless permit. Loose-cannons like you just want to get people going....thats pretty sad...................Les
-
why would i need to here his story he shot a bull with an antlerless tag
the antler is right above the eye
-
I agree with Hunterman, WHAT ANTLERS. Bowman I dont call people out to much but I'm am doing it know, your a pice of art work my friend. On a better note congratuations on your first elk, I too woulod have shot that elk with an anterless tag.
-
I can't see them either. The regs can be hard to understand, I would rather help a brother out than cut their throat.
-
Good job hogsniper!!
Bowman obviously doesn't have a clue what he is talking about, I wouldn't worry about it. He does have quite an imagination putting antler growth above the hairline on that elk, especially from that pic. Congrats again on your first archery elk.
-
I've looked at that picture over and over, and I can't see any antlers breaking the skin. :dunno:
-
Hogsniper congrats sounds like a fun hunt.Having your girlfriend and her dad to share in it makes even better.Dont let a**holes on here wreck it for you.
-
bowman419,,you had better get yoour eyes checked..For one bull calfs are indeed legal in an antlerless area..Learn to read, as far as horn groth on that elk,,NON ABOVE THE HAIR!! Learn the regs. before you make a bigger ass out of your self than you already have..
Again LEGAL NICE ELK CONGRATS..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
Their ought to be some sort of rule about hassling other members on here like that. I can't believe Bowmans first few posts on here are giving another member a bunch of crap.
-
10 to 1 says he has never killed an elk, let alone seen one..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
One of the best write-ups Ive read. Nice work! Bowman419 doesn't know what he is talking about.
-
Looks like it will taste great. Congrats.
-
I am new to this site and im sorry if my first few post's were negitive but I just could not stand to listen to a guy that runs his mouth when he really needs to just listen. Again sorry for the post and great job on that elk congrads to you and your family for being a part of it.
-
Congrats on filling your tag! I would vote against a quartering towards shot with a bow :bdid:
-
another bounty hunter at work,,,Not sure if the horns are visable or not,I dont see them..Good meat for the table..I hope to be perfect someday, like some on here..good job on your first bow elk.Did the girlfriend gut it for you :chuckle:
-
Congrats to you
-
Congrat on the fine eats Justin.
-
Ain't it the LAW that girlfriend HAS to gut your first archery elk :chuckle: Sorry darlin, but boyfriend should not have to do the yukie part..
I make Becky clean out all of my animals, and fillet all my fish :chuckle: Don't I guys..
Hunterman(Tony)
-
I was reading in the reg's...and I'm pretty sure it says I have an Archery Tag for one a@@hole per year. So far Bowman gets it.
Congrat's on a great chunk of meat!!!
-
Way to go Justin. Good eats. That hunt sounds like a blast to me. You moved to Oregon? How long do you plan to stay there? What for?
-
Now you can go after an Oregon Elk!! ???
-
any visible antler above the hairline means it has antlers right??? so that means its illegal to shoot and put a antlerless tag on am i right or wrong??
Bowman, you are a total jerk and should be banned. YOU MADE HIS CASE FOR HIM, IT HAD NO VISIBLE ANTLER ABOVE THE HAIRLINE. By the way, the regs never mention any requirements to look for other male equipment.
-
Good job hogsniper, sounds like a fun trip!
-
Bowman is a d-bag and is just jealous :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
Man this sure turned out to be quite the funny post! Heres a couple more pics for ya!!! Thanks for all the comments guys! Not quite visible horns there bowman but thanks for looking out!!!
-
Yeah don't mind that bowman guy. Instead of lobbing accusations he should have asked more questions in a private message. That guy should man up and get an apology typed up in a swift manner.
-
Well that should clear that up! ;) Congrats on your 1st Archery kill.
-
congrats! I watched a buddy of mine pooch a shot, it hit the tiniest little stick ever to grow bark and the arrow deflected hitting across both legs.......it cut both femoral arteries and sprayed blood like a sprinkler, dead in 20 paces. you gotta love it when a plan comes together!
nice work.
ps, bowman, lighten up.....you get no bonus points on this one, you are gonna have to draw like the rest of us
-
Nice job Hogsniper.
Bowman is just wanting to get round-housed
-
I am assuming >> I said assume.. that
hogsniper had this permit...
2268 Margaret WA Sept. 7-19 and Dec. 1-15 Antlerless GMU 524 35 672
which means it was an antlerless hunt so the following are the definitions...
Antler Point-Deer: A projection off any
part of the antler measuring at least one (1) inch
in length measured from the longest side. Eye
guards are antler points if they are at least one
inch long.
Antler Point-Elk: A projection off any part
of the antler measuring at least one (1) inch
in length measured from the longest side. Eye
guards are antler points if they are at least one
inch long.
Antlerless: Deer, elk, or moose without antlers;
doe and fawn deer and cow and calf elk and
moose are considered antlerless.
Any Buck/Bull: Only deer/elk with visible
antlers may be taken (fawns/calves illegal). Visible
antler is a horn-like growth projecting above the
hairline
Bowman needs to read carefully before accusing. It wasn't an "any buck or bull" permit as stated in his story. It also states further that calf elk are considered antlerless.
Congrats Hogsniper..well done!
-
Good job Hogsniper! This brings up a sore wound with me from last year. I never posted this before because I didn't want to sound like sour grapes at the time. After posting my photo of my elk here I took during archery last season some bozo on this site went to one of the local game wardens where I hunt to try and turn me in. Long story short, the game warden was already well aware of my bull and how it was LEGALLY taken so the story ended there. I just get sick of some of these jealous ass clowns. I agree with hammering poachers but there seems to be a few amongst our numbers here who are willing to try and turn in anyone to get a few points without knowing a fraction of the whole story in the hopes that one of their gambles will pay off. Once again great job Hogsniper.
-
Man this sure turned out to be quite the funny post! Heres a couple more pics for ya!!! Thanks for all the comments guys! Not quite visible horns there bowman but thanks for looking out!!!
Good job Justin.... it is fortunate that you have quality class and ignored the abuse. Anyone with any sense would know that a Marine Sniper would never miss the slightest detail before taking the shot.
And to those of you that think Jenna should gut his animal can rest assured that she is capable of doing just that and more. She is one to ride the river with.....
-
Justin,
Nice job brother!!!
Now for this bowman character. I have been hunting with Justin/hogsniper and I will guarantee you that he knew the rules up one side and down the other before he even hit the woods.I would suggest doing a little research next time before you start accusing one of better outdoorsman.
-
Good job Justin. Nice first elk.
You have to wonder with Bowman spouting off like that how much he sounds like someone from the "other site" over here to :stirthepot:
-
hahahahahahahahah you guys are funny......get all upset cuz one joker says something stupid......and :stirthepot: is fun when all of you are so uptight good day yall
-
Hogsniper, you are indeed a class act. You wrote an excellent post and didn't get drawn in to the negative aspect of an otherwise uplifting story.
I admire your skill, ethics and choice of hunting partner. Man, she's a keeper.
-
We got a nice preview of what bowmans posts are going to be like.
-
hahahahahahahahah you guys are funny......get all upset cuz one joker says something stupid......and :stirthepot: is fun when all of you are so uptight good day yall

Man and he didn't get to read my post to him :chuckle: I will look him up on the other site I haven't got kicked off there yet :chuckle:
-
you must have been one tired individual after your expedition, bagging an elk and a jive turkey with one shot ;) I muzzleload for elk and our late hunts are generally 3pt minimum or 'anterless' and I have taken 2 bull calves in the past 20 yrs. Along with mature cows and bulls. Really didn't know it untill I turned them over to gut. All I knew is they were anterless when I pulled the trigger. Good job, great family ! Also thank you for your service !
-
bye. We don;t need anything like this on here. :bdid:
-

Bowman, You calling yourself a joker now? I don't think anyone found what you said was funny? *censored*s Anonymous can help you!
Will said Yelp, the DB will be on the other sites on how he got baned from here for nothing. I say don't let the door hit you on the way out. >:( Now back to this thread, my first archery elk was a bull calf, my second archery elk was a bull calf, my third archery elk was a cow, could not draw a bull tag :bash: All good eathing. Any bow kill is will earned. Love the story great job. ;)
-
Congrats on your elk! Sounds like you should put a life time tag on your Girlfriends ring finger, its hard to find gals that hang out with boyfriend and Dad hunting! Congrats!
-
Can we get Bowman419 kicked off this forum? We don't need crap like that.
Oops I see that was taken care of and thank you.
-
congrats on youre first archery kill!!
-
Congrats Hogsniper. You obviously have the tact of a Marine. Semper Fi.
-
Nice work Justin.
-
We had 3 buddies that were in camp one had a Mud Flow tag, Toutle tag and Margaret. They were into the animals, but still had not tagged out. Just got back and took a cow as well.
