Title: Finally getting out! Anyone hunting Raymond-PeEll area this weekend?
Post by: lokidog on September 16, 2010, 09:54:36 AM: Well, I'm finally getting out. :archery_smiley: Heading down to the boat to go to the mainland in about 15 minutes, then 4 hour drive down to the coast. I've got one spot that I saw good sign last year during modern season and have hunted Willapa Hills years ago.

If anyone is hunting in the area and would like some company, drop me a line. I'll be computerless after I leave so you could get me at 360-789-7932 if interested. I'll check this once more before I head out the door in case anyone is slacking at work and reading this. :chuckle:

Post by: deerhunter_98520 on September 16, 2010, 07:33:41 PM: i was down by peell last sunday and the elk are talking...he would only answer once in a while till i got within 150 yds then he went nuts...bugling, chuckling, tearing up trees...i worked him for over 5hrs and could never close the deal...he would hang just out of range in the thick nastys....good luck..im hoping there still talkin saturday....oh btw make sure and get off the road..this guy was about 3/4 mile off the road in deep timber

Post by: lokidog on September 19, 2010, 08:43:37 PM: Well..... If spikes were legal, I'd be eating backstrap tonight. Had a 40 yard broadside yesterday but had to wait for the calf behind him. Calf stepped up and was not at a good angle, then the spike spooked at me being drawn on the calf. Oh well. I was 50 yards from him again this morning but could not find the calf. Yesterday also had a cow in the woods at 70 yards but could not get her to cooperate. Lots of bugling, but I think 95% of it was other hunters. Saw lots of grouse, but only with the bow in my hands, and not soon enough.

Here is a hint to all the landing buglers out there.... If you are driving out a dead-end road to a landing and you meet a truck coming from the landing, they have probably already bugled every 45 seconds for the last five to ten minutes - from their truck window, just like you are going to do! :chuckle: :chuckle:

Had a good hunt, got really wet, and saw some elk. I know where there will be a three point or so next year though.... :drool:

Hope others were more successful than me. Oh yeah, the chantrelles are starting to pop, a few decent sized keepers but a lot of buttons coming up. Didn't see any over about 1000 feet elevation though.
