I tried to change my tag from a Eastern Muzzle to a western muzzle and the state wont let me. WHY????
-
Did you apply for any permits?
-
I changed a tag about 4 years ago, but did it the same week I bought them. I just changed the weapon choice.
Didn't spend enough money. One of their $165.00 Multi season permits would have solved the problem, and they would have been much happier after being able to have stuck it in that much deeper!
Seriously, I wonder if they are now less inclined to allow a tag change since the MSP came into existence?
-
I know once you apply for permits that you cannot change. I have been told they will let you change if you haven't applied and there have been no seasons started yet.
-
The seasons have started..Why didn't buy the westside to begin with??

I also tried before the season started, I talked to the main guy about it. He said no more exchanging tags, unless you meet the requirements stated in the regulations. They are being strict about it from now on, but he did say they are trying and might loosen up those rules in the near future but only to exchange tags that are on the same side of the mountains. Example, you could change from muzzy east to archery east or whatever but not east to west.

yeah I did apply for special permits and then when we didnt get drawn I decided that I wanted to change no seasons have started. Why would the state care I paid my money what is the reason are they afraid that I might enjoy myself more are they afraid I might kill an elk this is not on their agenda.

You gambled and loss..You should have put a little more thought in your tag selction..

Allowing this would open a huge can of worms. Do you have any idea how many people. Would put in for premium draws. Then after the drawing. Want to swap thier tag choices.
I agree it would be a nice option. But I don't think it would be worth the mess it would create. :twocents:

In 96 I got bucked off a horse and broke some bones in my back. I had an archery tag and put in for permits and didn't get drawn. I didn't think I would make it for my elk bow hunt so after a lot of calls to the game dept. they said I could change to a rifle tag w/a doctors note. Ended up I could go on my bow hunt anyway. I killed a bull calf and my hunting buddy's packed it out for me.

This is the main reason they don't allow it. Just imagine how many people might switch to archery or muzzy after they don't draw their rifle tag, let alone east to west or vise-versa.

Yeah I get it. It sucks for me though because my brother cant go now and my Dad just had his hip replaced so now I am left to go by myself. I have been invited to go on another trip here on the West side but I can't so it looks like I am going to take my 7 year old son on a camping trip and stay pretty close to camp. If I kill an elk he can high fiveme and help me pack it out who knows it might be the best trip of my life.

This is exactly why I won't put in for special elk/deer permits ever again. I work construction and then get the shaft come hunting season if forced to designate that early, because sometimes a man just has to work. The state used to allow you to do whatever if not drawn but they said "crowding" was the reason they now make you designate.
From now on I will wait til the last minute before choosing my hunt.........FREEDOM.......but no special permit and to me its totally worth it. Work because I have to whenever I can and hunt whenever I'm not working because I just have to.
