Well I love it when people share the stories of their hunt so I am going to do the same. A couple days ago I had spoken to my brother to grab my tree stand for me while he was out in the woods. I tried to describe where it was to him, so in his adventure to grab my tree stand he had spooked some elk and got out of the area. Needless to say he didnt get my tree stand lol. We decided to head in there on opening morning since we knew elk where in the area and there would not be much pressure. Not even 5 minutes into our hunt we had a bull at 120 yds broadside, and he spotted us. I looked at my brother and said we are gonna do the count of three!! So I count 1.... 2..... 3.... boom i let one rip after the smoke clears the bull is walking away from us I look at my brother and he whispers my gun didnt fire!! :bash: So the herd splits in two different directions my brother goes running up to try and catch the bull to get another shot at him. I take my time reload and head to where the bull was standing. No blood no hair no nothing. I completely missed!! My bro decides to go on the trail that the bull went on. I stayed back looking for any trace of a hint. I knew inside I completly missed it. I told him I would loop around and work my way back towards him. I walked an area to see if they had crossed anywhere and they hadnt so I knew they where in between my brother and I. I went and set up in an area I thought they might be heading towards. I did a couple mews and lost cow calls with my diaphram. My brother call me on the radio that he jumped a cow and a calf and they where heading my way I stayed put and just waited. Not not even 5 minutes later I hear the crashing of elk in the reprod coming my direction. Getting closer and closer its to the point im waiting for the cow and calf to come running into me. Out comes a cow hauling ass at 15 yds in front of me. She comes to a complete stop lookes at me and takes off again. At this time I can tell its more that a cow and a calf. I figured the bull I had shot at would split from the heard and go his own way. Here comes the heard a spike first all at a dead run then a cow I would guess about six cows ran in front of me. Im waiting for the bull with my gun up. The rest of the heard comes out single file about 50 yds away. Here he steps out at a dead sprint I pull up my muzzle loader and settle in behind his fron shoulder waiting for him to slow down. At this time I realize hes not gonna stop he gets to about 70 yds and I fire. After the smoke clears I see him running slower and he does a nose dive. I get on the radio and tell my bro bull down! He said he had his pants down taking a dump when he heard my shot and knew I hit it. The rest is history. I shot it in the heart one of my better shots to date.
