Title: Peaches Ridge Bull Tag
Post by: Finaddicted on October 06, 2010, 10:43:34 AM
Hey guys...look'n for some help. Got a Peaches Ridge bull tag for modern firearm. We were up in the Naches area a couple weeks ago and seen parts of a couple cows taken during archery season and a large bull off the highway above Whistl'n Jacks. I've seen some pics and stories about some success in the Peaches Rdige area during archery season and thought I would reach out to everyone for some help on where to go in the Taneum or Naches area. Thought about hunting the Bald Mountain area??? Any help would be great!

Get a mountain bike if you don't have one and get behind any of the number of gates in either of the units.  Get a mile or more beyond the gates and this will severely limit the pumpkins you see.
Maps and google earth will be your best bet.

Start off by heading up the little naches river road and bring any calling skills you have.

Man, if I had that tag I would have been all over this a LONG TIME AGO! Not knockin' ya bud and I hope you've done your scouting since the draw was finalized but I would have been tapping every source of information the second I found out I got the tag. It's a great tag and you have the opportunity to pull a real beast out of there.

I wish I had some information for ya. Go to the "introduction" thread in the general forum, introduce yourself and tell us a little about ya. Folks here are awesome and you won't find a better spot for information. However, it's pretty difficult to just pop on here with your first post and get a lot of info.

Also, go to the search option here and look for Peaches Ridge. There are a lot of threads on here pertaining to the area and the tag you hold.

GOOD LUCK and don't forget to post pics/story after the hunt is complete.

I hope you're planning on hunting the first 5 days of your season, before the general spike season starts. Better yet, get there by Saturday the 23rd and you'll have two days to scout before your hunt starts. Deer season will be open that weekend so it wouldn't hurt to talk to some of the deer hunters. They might be willing to tell you where they saw elk, especially if they're not going to be there for elk season.

Excited about the tag - just been hard to get out. We've been up a couple times but only saw Elk once - not enough to be convincing to go back to that spot but who knows. We've been up the Milk Pond, Devils Slide, Ravens Roost - we have friends up in Ravens Roost and their last couple years have been slow. Also looked around the Bald Mountain area. We will be going up again next weekend during deer to look around as well. We plan to be "somewhere" as of the 23rd. I know what it's like to keep those secret spots to yourself...just looking for places to scout that we haven't already.

agchawk - I will go to the introduction. I hear good things about these forums - thanks for the advice.

They're still rutting and usually answer for about the first 2 days sometimes 3 of the season.   It tapers off expotentially once the season starts.

Yes I would guess that since it would be about 4 weeks after the cows come into heat for the first time, that any cows that weren't bred in September, will come into heat the last week of October. Maybe if you smell and sound like a cow in heat, the bulls will come running.

I dont have to say Bones right. Lol
But last year a group of 3 guys with rifles just went along the roads and called. They actually got a responce and stalked the bull and kapow! It was over.

Not how Id suggest but just sayin, they will answer if your a bit lucky.

I hunted that saturday and sunday for muzzy season.  Friday before the opener bulls were bugling like crazy and still acting aggressive, raking trees and fighting. Saturday was so hot nothing talked.  Sunday evening they started talking again once all the motorycle riders and people who decide to come back 4 miles and target practice for about an hour. I had this tag in 2008 and they were still bugling the first two days of the season.

I would real careful about calling. If you don't think there still aren't guys that will shot in the brush at a call with a rifle then your a retard.  :yike:Wear hunter orange when doing so! After the first five days are over and half of Seattle starts pouring in I would put the calls away! :bdid:

I dont know what he would call at the end of october but i do know that if he had one of the rifle permits that is hunting right now, then he could probably call in a few bulls.  He did not say when his tag was.

Call up or do a Google search for Rugged Class Outfitters.  They have had some great bulls taken by clients this fall.  Good luck.

 :yeah:
When a guy has three months to scout for this bull tag, it's a little late in the game. Good Luck!

Another nod for Norse.   I don't like very many guides.  I think most of them are worthless.  If I had the tag and the money, I'd trust Norse to get me on a bull.  Besides, that is his backyard....no really its his backyard.

Thanks bone.  The difference is we don't do it for a living, so we're not trying to get rich off of it....that being said, trucks don't run on "please and thank you" so we do try to make a couple dollars to cover exspenses and maybe a cold beer after we tag out on a big bull.   :IBCOOL:
