I drew the Sherman tag with my dad, my first choice and it is a great tag. I am f'in pumped up but have only hunted Turkeys up there. If anybody has some advice (other than get a snowmobile) I am game for it. I have shot pretty nice bears the last 2 years in the early fall in other eastern units but this is my first spring hunt and first in the Sherman unit. I don't expect it will be like on TV where you get to see them come out of a hole in the snow and wear sunglasses, get tan, and ride motocross sleds with sweet stickers but it should be pretty cool. Gimme some love and share your knowledge. It is a draw hunt anyway so I'm not sure it does anybody much good to hide anything. I'll post a couple of bear pics in the gallery when i get some good advice.
pumped up, ready to go whack some Turkeys and some bears. A poultry and boar medley will make a nice stew.

I could get you on a bear in 101 guaranteed. I just need to see if any of our hunters get drawn first. You just need to follow the snow line where the grass is greening up. They love the new bear grass in the spring.

hey flyguide,
Ive been on some of the land Outfitter hunts, I believe for his prices his outfit is great and from what Ive seen from him I believe you would get several chances at a good bear ... not to mention the high numbers of color phases he has on his properties...
worth considering bro!
When I get back from Iraq Ill be spending plenty o time and money with OUTFITTER.

The first 2 are pictures of the big one i shot in 2006, it was a really nice bear. I had been hunting them pretty hard for several years, missed a nice one with a rifle the year before and lost a medium sized one with a bow and was getting pretty down, for how hard I hunt, bears seemed to be one step ahead. Finally took a nice bear (my first) in August 2006, got another pretty nice one in August 2007 as well. I am jacked up about this spring hunt, I would like to get a jet black bear with a nice thick spring coat.
Outfitter, thanks for the offer but I can hardly afford the diesel to get there (fly fishing guide's salary - you know how it is). Let alone what it is going to cost to tan another one of these pelts. I plan to hunt a couple of days right when Turkey/Bear opens and then come back for 4 days later at the end of April or May.
What time frame do you think is the best for this hunt? And are you generally able to drive and glass, or are you stuck hiking? What outfitting service do you own? On a good couple of days on the right hills, how many bears do you expect to see and how picky are your shooters?
Thanks

Flyguide, I didn't mean a guided hunt. I should have explained that better. I'm so full on turkey hunters that I will be hurtin if one of our own hunters get drawn. I was just talking about showing you a couple of good ridges that we have killed alot of bears in the past. I will be up there if I get someone drawn but if not I can take you up there. The snow won't be gone enough to hunt though until May probably. One spot I can tell you because we won't go there is Bisby rd. Alot of bear but alot of turkey hunters. About 2 miles up there is an old orchard if you hike in to the west about half a mile off the road.We have shot alot of bear there and We have found alot of dens in that canyon. Even though the fruit won't be on they are in that canyon even when the fruit is gone in the fall. There are alot of turkeys in there also. You will fight other turkey hunters there in April but there usually done there by the first of May.If we don't get a hunter drawn I can take you to our honey hole though and you will never see another hunter there but its the best bear spot we have.

Wow, Outfitter! That is one incredibly generous offer! If I had the money to go out with your group, I would just based on your integrity shown on this board! Wish more would think as you.
You are on my list as my first choice should I ever require outfitter/guide services! :rockin:
