Looking for specific make and model suggestions for both rifle and shotguns for a 9 soon to be 10 year old. Want to get him started on deer and upland birds. Any suggestions? Thanks

i started out with a H&R handi rifle in 243. that is what i shot my first deer with. my wife and brother both shot there first deer with that gun as well. great beginner gun, and pretty good little shooting rifle.

I bought both my kids (12yrs and 14yrs now...) Mossberg 20 gauge pump shotguns, youth model 500 with a stock piece you remove now, then reinstall later as they grow...
I also found a Savage .243 with accutrigger (model 10?) for the deer hunting, (had to buy two of these for my rugrats) figured it would make a nice varmint rifle when they outgrow the caliber...and move to a larger gun for deer and elk later.... My kids are wickedly accurate with this lightweight rifle...
If I have to keep buying things two at a time, I am going to be broke soon... :'(

remington model seven youth they make it in .243 .260 .308 . I own a .260 and even though my sons moved up to a tiks .300wsm there's no way I'm getting rid of that little model seven its a deer wack'n unit .

i've got remington 870 youth in 20 gauge that i've been breaking in for my son (he's 2 now) thats become my go to shotgun. The sell a black or camo synthetic stock version that you can add spacers to as they grow
