Hey Whitey I've been trying to do my homework for some hunting in that area.  Contacted the head biologist today and looking at maps etc etc.  Do you get out often like on weekends ?  I've got a black lab that's still pretty green (my fault) but would love to hook up with someone over in that area ?  Right now I'm hunting solo. He gave me a few places that might be productive but I haven't been over there upland bird hunting in almost 20 years.

My dog just turned 3 this summer.  I've had him out only 3-4 times and been on birds every time.  He stays close and hits the ground good, just can't get him to retrieve my birds yet.  As for in shape, I'm a bowhunter and am used to putting in 6-8 miles a day across the boonies but know how tough Chukar hunting is.  Used to do it a lot when I lived in Northern California. I've been walking the stairs at work to help the cause but I'm probably not in tip top shape either.  Drop me a line when you get back and let's plan on getting on some birds.  Good luck in Idaho  ;)

Never been much of a waterfowl hunter.  Shot a few here and there but always relied on a friend to supply decoys and expertise.  Upland game is my favorite.  Just don't like sitting in one place for too long.  Probably why I haven't killed many Elk or Deer either.  I will need to get Smokey out and start running him.  Do you ever have to worry about their pads when hunting Chukar ?  Hunted over some fine Brittany's and a German Shorthair/Weimaraner mix that was a lot of fun to see in action and we never had much of a problem.  I was just wondering, if we are hunting on a lot of volcanic rock it can really be hard on their feet especially if their not used to it ?  Your thoughts ?

You guys ever hunt chucker in Dec.? I used to do a lot of chucker and hun hunting around Asotin and Chelan. Haven't gone in a few years. I've got a week off for the christmas break and I think I'll head over to Chelan. No dog (he's too old now) but that has never stopped me before. Just wondering what it's like or any tricks hunting them in Dec.

whitey,  I tried your popper recipie out.........damn those are good. Gonna make some up for deer camp Sat.  Good luck hunting.

Best time once it snows.  They come down lower and are a bit easier to get on, besides every thing being slicker than snot.  Some of my best chukar hunts have been a short walk from the duck blind when theres good snow on the ground.
