I took my bull in last Nov. to my taxi he called me 2 months ago about what form I wanted and have not heard back from him. Is this kind fishy? How long does it take to send a hide out and finish the bull? He was not a large bull you can see him in the womens forum under my 09 bull.

:yeah:
I have ever heard 2-3 years with some taxies :'( They were just that busy :o

:dunno: I would have thought he would have asked what form when you first took it in. I'm not a taxi sooooooooo...... :dunno:

And it does depend on how busy a guy is. Some of the better known ones can take longer just because they are just plain back logged.
You don't go visit your taxi once in a while? Hell, I just like walking in and seeing what he's got going and shoot the breeze a bit. At this point you can probably walk in and see your own animal in some form of progression with stick pins holding things in place with the faint smell of glue doing its job.

No julzzz that is not odd. The average turn around for most Taxidermists is going to be around the 12 to 18 month time frame. Some have a little shorter turn around and some longer. It really depends on the demand of there work. Some years are busier than others and turn around time can change from year to year.
I would say most taxidermists are in the 12 month time frame.
Lets say you drop off a deer and I am able to Split flesh and salt it the day you bring it in. It is going to take a minimum of a week to be salted dried hard enough to ship to the tannery. Like any buisness we need to save money so I am not going to ship a box of hides to the tannery every week. Just to expensive. I am going to save them for atleast a month and drive them to the tannery. It can take anywhere from 4 - 6 months to get a hide back from the tannery. Especially if it was dropped off in Dec. They are not only tanning my hides but probably 100 or more other taxidermists hides.
When we do finnaly get the hides back most of the capes to be mounted are going to be wet tanned so they will go in the freezer. We can't get measurments off of all of them that day. Most of the animals that are dropped off are not going to have any neck meat for us to get measurments so we take that measurments off of the cape AFTER it is tanned. As we start working through the animals and ordering forms we will be making calls to those who havn't already picked theres out. It takes us months to work through all the hides.

my taxidermist has about a three year wait at the moment, especially for elk.......
Good info from the troops. ( I was joking above as I do my own and thats where I am at)

One year turn around is a decent time. Like said it depends on the taxidermist.
There are some taxidermists that have 2-3 year turn around. But they should be telling you that when you bring you it there.
