Just curious. How many permit holders ate their tag. Between the 4 of us hunting, we had 2 permits. We both ate our tags. I talked with 2 guys with Goose Prairie permits. They ate theirs also.
I missed a bull the 2nd evening and my buddy shot one at 10 feet on the 4th day and lost it. That was the only ethical shot opportunity I had the entire season.

We had one guy in our camp with a Peaches tag and he ate it but he had a 20 yard shot on a nice bull that he missed so it was not due to lack of opportunity.
-
My dad ended up with a 5x5, he was hoping for something much bigger but i guess it's way better than tag soup :)
-
I know of 2 huge 6x6's that was pulled out.... wish I had that tag! Called in 4 big bulls over a couple of days trying to get to their cows..... Rain this year made it tough the 1st few days, got back into them the 2nd week...

I know of a 400 taken, are we talking archery or muzzleloader?
-
Despite the lack-luster season, we'll be back. We intend to hunt the eastside side until we all get big bulls. Then it's back to hunting hoof-rotted Rosies in the rain.
I just think the weather screwed us. When it was sunny, the elk were fired up. When it got cloudy, they shut down.

Archery.... do you happen to have pics of the 400? When was it taken? The 2 bulls I saw taken one was a solid 320 and the other pushing 350.... HUGE!

archery, no pics but I saw it in person, very impressive.

I saw bulls during archery season. One big 7 point and some 5 pts. All the dead elk I saw or heard of were cows

Kind of a weird year! Family in Montana is saying the bulls are absolutely going nuts right now. Rifle season opens up next week. Late Rut???Or second heat cycle????
I'm bringing my brother to Peaches to connect on a Special Bull permit next week. I'm 2 for 3 for filling tags for myself or others in that unit. Should be 3 for 3 but my little brother got cold feet last year. Gave him two shot opportunities with a bow and he didn't take them. One was at 20 yards.
-
The bulls didn't really get started until the end of season, I saw one good bull within range and knew where 2-3 good bulls were. To bad I could only shoot a cow.
-
I hate to hear of bull tags going unfilled....you guys should give me a call next time....we worked on average 6-10 bulls a day the whole season in both Bumping and Peaches units, went 5 for 5 so far this season. Good luck to all in the rest of the season. And don't forget about the Hunt-Wa member discount!

Sounds like you need a new brother :chuckle:

Norse,
I called you and never received a call back.
I'm disappointed but not upset. It was our first time hunting the unit. We learned the terrain, how to hunt it and where the bulls hung out. I had my chance and missed. No one but myself to blame. We called in more bulls every day than we usually get in an entire season on the west side; even when they weren't that active. Had a ton of fun and are already planning for next year.

Dave, sorry I didn't get back to you, may have had a communications break down here at the house, sometimes my wife doesn't give me good messages....sorry you didn't get your bull, would have loved to take you out. Don't give up on us, next time you draw, please give us a call and we'll make it right with you. Again, sorry we didn't get connected.

I ate my Peaches Tag! It still hurts.
